Overview
The Hartford HSA-546AAC is a five-metre five-face double-column machining center built around a magazine of machining heads. Hartford's AAC multi-head magazine holds 3 to 5 heads, and the machine supports an automatic universal head, an automatic 90° angle head and an automatic extension head.
The envelope is the widest in the family. Y travel is 4,600 mm (181.1 in) over a 5,000 x 3,000 mm (196.9 x 118.1 in) table, with 5,000 mm (196.9 in) of X travel and a load rating of 21,000 kg (46,296 lb). The HSA-536EAY has the same table with 4,400 mm (173.2 in) of Y.
Head storage is described in some detail. Each station has protective covers and independent storage for the angle heads, and an independent movable door that opens only during head exchange to keep chips out. The head exchange mechanism is integrated with a vertical and horizontal tool-changing system.
A job that alternates between top-face milling, side drilling and deep reach can therefore keep all three head types on the machine and switch between them in the program. The spindle is #50, a gear head at 6,000 rpm (8,000 rpm optional) or a 10,000 rpm hybrid, with 18.5 / 22 kW or 30 / 35 kW. Z travel is 1,000 mm, optionally 1,200 mm.
