Goodway GS-280 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Goodway GS-280 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Goodway or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

Fit a 10 in chuck and a Ø75 mm (3.0 in) bore to the GS-200 and the result is the Goodway GS-280. Spindle speed drops to 3,500 rpm, and the larger chuck shortens the usable turning length to 534 mm (21.0 in) on the standard bed or 1,134 mm (44.6 in) on the L bed.

The rest of the specification is carried over. Z-axis travel is 600 mm (23.6 in) or 1,200 mm (47.2 in) and X-axis travel is 240 mm (9.4 in). The machine swings Ø650 mm (25.6 in) and turns Ø420 mm (16.5 in). Power comes from a wide-range motor rated 11 kW (15 HP) continuous and 15 kW (20 HP) for 30 min.

Is the motor enough for a 10 in chuck? Goodway's answer is the αP wide-range design, which it says reaches full horsepower at half the rpm of standard motors. That helps exactly where a 10 in machine works, on larger diameters at low spindle speed. A buyer who expects sustained heavy roughing should still compare the GS-2800, which has a 15 kW (20.1 hp) continuous rating and Ø570 mm (22.4 in) of turning diameter.

A 12-station servo turret is standard. The option list covers a 12-station live tooling turret with ER32 collets, a Y-axis with 110 mm (4.3 in) of travel, and a sub-spindle with a 6 in chuck. Note the mismatch in that last item. The sub-spindle chuck is smaller than the main one, so parts transferred for back-end work must suit a 6 in chuck.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Ø75 mm (3.0 in) bar capacity through a 10 in chuck
  • Wide-range αP motor: 11 kW (15 HP) continuous, 15 kW (20 HP) for 30 min.
  • Two bed lengths with up to 1,200 mm (47.2 in) of Z travel
  • Y-axis, live tooling and sub-spindle variations are available

Limitations

  • 3,500 rpm maximum spindle speed
  • Turning length is 534 mm (21.0 in) on the standard bed, shorter than the 590 mm (23.2 in) of the GS-200
  • The optional sub-spindle has a 6 in chuck, smaller than the 10 in main chuck
  • Same 11 kW (15 HP) continuous motor as the smaller-bore GS-200

Best For

Bar work up to Ø75 mm (3.0 in) on box ways 10 in chucking jobs up to Ø420 mm (16.5 in) turning diameter Low-speed, large-diameter cuts that use the wide-range motor

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the bar capacity and chuck size of the GS-280?

Goodway lists a 10 in chuck and Ø75 mm (3.0 in) of bar capacity, with a maximum spindle speed of 3,500 rpm. The GS-200 is the same machine with an 8 in chuck, Ø65 mm (2.6 in) bar capacity and 4,500 rpm.

02 How long a part fits in the GS-280?

Maximum turning length is 534 mm (21.0 in) on the standard machine and 1,134 mm (44.6 in) on the GS-280 L. Z-axis travel is 600 mm (23.6 in) and 1,200 mm (47.2 in) for the two beds.

03 What sub-spindle is offered on the GS-280?

An optional sub-spindle with a 6 in chuck and a built-in motor, rated 5.5 kW (7.5 HP) continuous and 7.5 kW (10 HP) on the 30 min. rating, with a speed range of 60 ~ 6,000 rpm. It is part of the S, MS and YS variations.

04 What is the Y-axis travel of the GS-280?

110 mm (4.3 in), which is ±55 mm about the spindle centerline. The Y-axis is optional, and with it the maximum turning diameter is Ø340 mm (13.4 in) instead of Ø420 mm (16.5 in).
