Overview

Goodway names the work for the GV-780 outright: brake discs, brake drums, gears, wheels, hubs and valves. It is a vertical turning center for 15 in and 18 in chucks that turns Ø820 mm (32.3 in) and 660 mm (26.0 in) high, within a footprint the maker puts at approximately 6.3 m2.

Spindle power is 18.5 kW (24.8 hp) continuous and 22 kW (29.5 hp) for 30 min. Torque is 620 Nm (457 lb-ft) continuous and 1,050 Nm (774 lb-ft) on the 30 min. rating. That is a clear step above the GV-500, which peaks at 883 Nm (651 lb-ft), and it comes with a larger envelope: 500 mm (19.7 in) of X travel and 670 mm (26.4 in) of Z travel, both at 20 m/min (787 ipm) on roller linear guideways.

Tooling details reward a careful read. The 8-station turret takes 32 mm (1.3 in) square O.D. tools; the 12-station turret takes 25 mm (1.0 in) tools. Boring bars are Ø50 mm (2.0 in) on either. The optional dual-face turning holder uses 20 mm (0.8 in) tools and can be set from 7 mm (0.3 in) to 100 mm (3.9 in) between its two holders, which is the range of disc thickness it can straddle.

Two live tooling drives are listed for the optional 12-station turret: 4.5 kW (6.0 hp) at 40 ~ 4,000 rpm, or 7 kW (9.4 hp) at 30 ~ 3,000 rpm. Goodway also describes a Work-piece Balancing Analyzer for the series. The standard control is FANUC Oi-TF Plus.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What parts is the GV-780 designed for?

Goodway calls it the optimal manufacturing solution for brake discs, brake drums, gears, wheels, hubs and valves. It takes 15 in or 18 in chucks and turns up to Ø820 mm (32.3 in) in diameter and 660 mm (26.0 in) in height.

02 What are the spindle ratings of the GV-780?

18.5 kW (24.8 hp) continuous and 22 kW (29.5 hp) for 30 min. Spindle torque is 620 Nm (457 lb-ft) continuous and 1,050 Nm (774 lb-ft) on the 30 min. rating.

03 Which turret should I order on the GV-780?

The 8-station turret holds 32 mm (1.3 in) square O.D. tools, the 12-station turret 25 mm (1.0 in) tools; both take Ø50 mm (2.0 in) I.D. tools. Heavier cuts favour the larger shank, more operations favour the 12 stations.

04 How does the GV-780 compare with the GV-1000?

The GV-1000 is the next size, with 18 in to 32 in chucks, Ø1,000 mm (39.4 in) of turning diameter and a geared spindle giving 3,765 Nm (2,777 lb-ft) for 30 min. The GV-780 turns Ø820 mm (32.3 in) and gives 1,050 Nm (774 lb-ft) on the same rating.
