Overview

The Goodway GA-3300 is where the GA series changes frame. Turning diameter grows to Ø500 mm (19.7 in) from the Ø350 mm (13.8 in) of the GA-2800, X travel to 260 mm (10.2 in), and the spindle motor to 18.5 kW (24.8 hp) continuous with 22 kW (29.5 hp) available for 30 min. The chuck is 12 in, bar capacity is Ø90 mm (3.5 in) and top speed is 3,000 rpm.

No short-bed version exists at this size. Z travel starts at 630 mm (24.8 in) and continues through 930 mm (36.6 in) to 1,230 mm (48.4 in), for turning lengths of 625 mm (24.6 in), 925 mm (36.4 in) and 1,225 mm (48.2 in). The tailstock is heavier too. Its quill is Ø110 mm (4.3 in), it accepts an MT#5 live center or an MT#4 dead center, and the base travels 450 mm (17.7 in), 750 mm (29.5 in) or 1,050 mm (41.3 in) depending on the bed.

Goodway's description of the GA series leans on torque and rigidity: box ways, large servo-indexing turrets and, with the optional Cf-axis, a servo motor that the maker rates at 480 Nm for C-axis work. The base turret has 10 or 12 stations. The live tooling turret is a 12-station ER32 unit rated 40 ~ 4,000 rpm, and it is an option.

Swing over the bed is Ø600 mm (23.6 in). For a shop that needs the same envelope with more bore, the GA-3600 passes Ø105 mm (4.1 in) bar on this frame.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 18.5 kW (24.8 hp) continuous and 22 kW (29.5 hp) 30 min. spindle motor, the larger of the two GA motor ratings
  • Ø500 mm (19.7 in) maximum turning diameter with 260 mm (10.2 in) of X travel
  • Tailstock quill of Ø110 mm (4.3 in) taking an MT#5 live center
  • Z travel up to 1,230 mm (48.4 in) for shaft work

Limitations

  • Top spindle speed is 3,000 rpm, which limits surface speed on small diameters
  • The shortest Z travel is 630 mm (24.8 in), so there is no compact chucker version
  • Live tooling, C-axis and Y-axis are extra-cost variations (M and Y)
  • Bar capacity is Ø90 mm (3.5 in); larger stock needs the GA-3600
06

Best For

Chucking work up to Ø500 mm (19.7 in) on a 12 in chuck Shafts supported by an MT#5 live center, up to 1,225 mm (48.2 in) long Heavy roughing in steel on box ways at up to 3,000 rpm

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the difference between the GA-3300 and the GA-2800?

The GA-3300 sits on the larger GA frame. It turns Ø500 mm (19.7 in), has 260 mm (10.2 in) of X travel and an 18.5 kW (24.8 hp) continuous motor. The GA-2800 turns Ø350 mm (13.8 in) with 205 mm (8.1 in) of X travel and an 11 kW (14.8 hp) continuous motor, but runs faster, at 3,500 rpm.

02 What spindle motor does the GA-3300 have?

Goodway lists 18.5 kW (24.8 hp) continuous and 22 kW (29.5 hp) on the 30 min. rating, with a maximum spindle speed of 3,000 rpm. The chuck is 12 in and the bar capacity Ø90 mm (3.5 in).

03 What are the Z-axis travels of the GA-3300?

630 mm (24.8 in), 930 mm (36.6 in) or 1,230 mm (48.4 in). The maximum turning lengths that go with them are 625 mm (24.6 in), 925 mm (36.4 in) and 1,225 mm (48.2 in), and the tailstock base travels 450 mm (17.7 in), 750 mm (29.5 in) or 1,050 mm (41.3 in).

04 Is a C-axis available on the GA-3300?

Yes, with the M or Y variation. Goodway describes it as a Cf-axis with a disk brake, driven by a servo motor rated at 480 Nm of torque, which engages in less than 2 seconds. It works together with the optional 12-station live tooling turret.
