Goodway GS-2800 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Goodway GS-2800 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Goodway or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

A 10 in chuck, Ø75 mm (3.0 in) of bar capacity and 3,500 rpm place the Goodway GS-2800 second in the four-size GS-2000 / GS-3000 series. It uses the smaller of the series' two motors, 15 kW (20.1 hp) continuous and 18.5 kW (24.8 hp) for 30 min., on the common box-way bed.

That bed is the same for all four sizes, and it is large. Turning diameter is Ø570 mm (22.4 in), swing Ø700 mm (27.6 in) and X travel 300 mm (11.8 in). The buyer picks between 780 mm (30.7 in) and 1,530 mm (60.2 in) of Z travel, with turning length to match. The ways on X and Z are hardened box ways with a wide span, on a 30° slant.

So why choose the GS-2800 over its neighbours? Against the GS-2000 it passes larger bar at the cost of top speed. Against the GS-3300 it runs faster and is the last size that keeps the 6 in sub-spindle and the lighter tailstock, with 120 mm (4.7 in) of quill travel and an MT#4 live center. Step up to the GS-3300 and both of those grow with the motor.

Driven tooling is optional. Goodway rates the live tooling drive at 4.5 kW and lists 12 live stations with ER32 collets. The Y variation adds ±50 mm (±2.0 in) of Y travel, and the turret's opposing tool change takes 0.8 seconds according to the maker.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Ø75 mm (3.0 in) bar capacity with a 3,500 rpm spindle
  • Large common bed: Ø570 mm (22.4 in) turning diameter, 300 mm (11.8 in) X travel
  • Hardened wide-span box ways on a 30° slant bed
  • 12-station servo turret with a 0.8 seconds opposing tool change, per Goodway

Limitations

  • Uses the smaller series motor: 15 kW (20.1 hp) continuous, where the GS-3300 has 18.5 kW (24.8 hp)
  • The optional sub-spindle has a 6 in chuck, against 8 in on the GS-3300
  • Live tooling drive is rated 4.5 kW, enough for drilling and light milling only
  • Y-axis travel is ±50 mm (±2.0 in) and cuts turning diameter to Ø400 mm (15.7 in)

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the main specifications of the GS-2800?

A 10 in chuck, Ø75 mm (3.0 in) bar capacity, 3,500 rpm maximum spindle speed and a motor rated 15 kW (20.1 hp) continuous, 18.5 kW (24.8 hp) for 30 min. Turning diameter is Ø570 mm (22.4 in) and turning length 780 mm (30.7 in) or 1,530 mm (60.2 in).

02 Should I choose the GS-2800 or the GS-3300?

The GS-3300 has a 12 in chuck, Ø90 mm (3.5 in) bar capacity, 3,000 rpm and an 18.5 kW (24.8 hp) continuous motor. The GS-2800 passes Ø75 mm (3.0 in) and runs to 3,500 rpm. Bed, travels and turret are shared, so the decision rests on stock size and how hard the roughing is.

03 What tailstock comes with the GS-2800?

The table lists a programmable tailstock with an MT#3 dead center or MT#4 live center and 120 mm (4.7 in) of quill travel. A servo tailstock is optional. Goodway also lists manual and automatic self-centering steady rests for the series.

04 How fast is the live tooling on the GS-2800?

Goodway's main table lists 5,000 rpm for the optional 12-station live tooling turret, with ER32 collets and a 4.5 kW drive motor. Only the tool in the working position rotates, which the maker says reduces power loss and heat.
