Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Sugino Self-Center V6 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Sugino Self-Center V6 is a turret type vertical machining center: instead of a spindle and a separate tool magazine, a turret head carries 6 tools, or 8 as an option, and indexes the next one into the cut. Travels are 300 mm (11.8 in) in X and 250 mm (9.8 in) in both Y and Z, all three by column traverse, so the 300 × 500 mm table stays still and the workpiece does not move during the cycle.
That fixed table is rated for 500 kg (1,102 lb), which is far more than the cutting capacity would suggest and leaves room for heavy fixtures or a turntable, which Sugino lists as an option. The whole machine is 1,100 mm wide and weighs 1,800 kg (3,968 lb).
Read the spindle figures before anything else. The NT30 spindle turns at 8,000 rpm on 1.1 kW (1.5 hp) as standard, with a 2.2 kW (3.0 hp) high torque version. Sugino puts the processing capacity in steel at a φ10.5 mm drill, an M10 tap and 15 cm3/min of milling, and in aluminum at φ14 mm, M14 and 120 cm3/min. This is a drilling, tapping and light milling machine, and the table says so plainly.
What the turret buys is a short and simple tool change: 1.2 sec tool to tool on a 50Hz supply and 1.0 sec on 60Hz, with BT30 shanks that need no pull stud. Tools can be up to φ80 × 200 mm and 3 kg. Rapids are 30 m/min (1,181 ipm) on all axes and cutting feed goes to 10 m/min. High pressure coolant through the spindle and the high speed/high torque spindle are options, and Sugino also sells the unit on its own for custom-made machines.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Turret tool change takes 1.2 sec on 50Hz and 1.0 sec on 60Hz, and the BT30 shanks need no pull stud
- All three axes are column traverse, so the 500 kg (1,102 lb) table load does not move
- Small machine: 1,100 mm wide and 1,800 kg (3,968 lb)
- Positioning accuracy of 0.004 mm in full travel and repeatability of ±0.001 mm
- Needs at most 8 kVA of power and 50 L/min of air
Limitations
- Only 6 tools as standard and 8 as an option
- Standard spindle power is 1.1 kW (1.5 hp); the 2.2 kW (3.0 hp) version is the high torque spindle
- Steel capacity is given as a φ10.5 mm drill, an M10 tap and 15 cm3/min of milling
- Travels of 300 mm (11.8 in) in X and 250 mm (9.8 in) in Y and Z limit the part size
- High pressure coolant through and the turntable are options

Frequently Asked Questions
01
It is a #30 turret type vertical machining center. A turret head holds 6 tools, or 8 as an option, and the column moves in X, Y and Z over 300 mm (11.8 in), 250 mm (9.8 in) and 250 mm (9.8 in). Sugino positions it for mass production and for medium-volume production of multiple products.
02
Sugino gives the tool to tool time as 1.2 sec on a 50Hz supply and 1.0 sec on 60Hz. Tool selection is random with the shortest approach. Tool shanks are BT30 and no pull stud is necessary, and a tool can measure up to φ80 × 200 mm and weigh up to 3 kg.
03
The maker states drilling capacity as φ14 mm in aluminum, φ12.5 mm in cast iron and φ10.5 mm in steel, tapping as M14, M12 and M10 in the same materials, and milling as 120 cm3/min, 40 cm3/min and 15 cm3/min. The spindle runs at 8,000 rpm with 1.1 kW as standard or 2.2 kW in the high torque version.
04
The machine measures 1,100 × 2,175 × 2,070 mm (43.3 × 85.6 × 81.5 in) and weighs 1,800 kg (3,968 lb). It runs on 3-phase AC 200V with a power capacity of at most 8 kVA, and needs air at 0.4 to 0.6 MPa with a consumption of up to 50 L/min.
05
Sugino marks high pressure coolant through, the high speed/high torque spindle and the turntable as options. The 8-tool turret is also optional; 6 tools is standard. Automatic lubrication of the ball screws and linear guides of the feed axes is standard.
