Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Fryer MC-30B that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Fryer MC-30B is the smallest of the box way MC-B vertical machining centers: 30 x 18 x 22 in (762 x 457 x 559 mm) of travel over a 16.5 x 31.5 in (419 x 800 mm) table, in a machine that weighs 9,900 lb (4,491 kg). Fryer builds the series on heavyweight castings with box way construction, and the 30B is where that construction takes the least floor: 93 x 86 in (2,362 x 2,184 mm), and 89 in (2,261 mm) tall.
Fryer does not scale the spindle down with the casting. Its table gives one spindle for the whole series: 30 hp (22.4 kW) peak, 60 - 8,500 rpm, 155 ft-lb (210 Nm) at 350 rpm, CAT 40. For 30 in (762 mm) of X that is a lot of low-speed torque, which points the machine at steel and cast iron parts rather than at light aluminium work. A 40 hp (29.8 kW) motor and a CAT 50 spindle are options.
The table is the thing to plan around. It has 3 T-slots where every larger MC-B has 5, and it carries 2,500 lb (1,134 kg) evenly distributed. Spindle nose to table runs from 25 to 3 in (635 - 76 mm), so the vise, the part and the longest drill all have to fit inside that gap.
Tooling follows the series standard: a 24 station arm type changer, a 3 seconds tool change, tools up to 3.2 in (81 mm) in diameter with the magazine full and 11.8 in (300 mm) long. Rapids are 1,200 ipm (30.5 m/min) in X and Y and 900 ipm (22.9 m/min) in Z. The control is the Fryer / Siemens 828-HS, which Fryer says can be run manually, semi-automatic and in full CNC mode; a SINUMERIK ONE and a FANUC 0i MF Plus are listed as upgrades.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Box way construction and 9,900 lb (4,491 kg) of machine behind a 30 x 18 x 22 in (762 x 457 x 559 mm) envelope
- Carries the same 30 hp (22.4 kW) peak, 155 ft-lb (210 Nm) spindle that Fryer's table gives the MC-100B
- 24 station arm type tool changer with a 3 seconds tool change is standard
- Positioning accuracy of +/- 0.0002 in (0.0051 mm) and repeatability of +/- 0.0001 in (0.0025 mm) on X, Y and Z
- Occupies 93 x 86 in (2,362 x 2,184 mm) of floor, the least in the series
Limitations
- The table has 3 T-slots and is rated 2,500 lb (1,134 kg), the lowest load in the MC-B series
- The base spindle stops at 8,500 rpm; the 12,000 rpm and 15,000 rpm in-line spindles are options
- Standard supply is 380-500 VAC three-phase at 40 A; 208-250 VAC is an option
- Coolant through the spindle appears on the options sheet as a 350 psi system, not in the base table

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Travels are 30 x 18 x 22 in (762 x 457 x 559 mm) in X, Y and Z. The table measures 16.5 x 31.5 in (419 x 800 mm), has 3 T-slots 0.708 in (18 mm) wide and is rated for 2,500 lb (1,134 kg) evenly distributed. The table top sits 30 in (762 mm) above the floor.
02
The standard spindle is CAT 40, 60 - 8,500 rpm, with a 30 hp (22.4 kW) peak motor and 155 ft-lb (210 Nm) at 350 rpm. Fryer lists a 40 hp (29.8 kW) motor that raises torque to 204 ft-lb (277 Nm), a CAT 50 spindle and BT tooling as options, along with 12,000 rpm and 15,000 rpm in-line spindles.
03
The MC-40B is the next size up: 40 x 20 x 28 in (1,016 x 508 x 711 mm) of travel, a 20 x 40 in (508 x 1,016 mm) table with 5 T-slots, and 12,100 lb (5,489 kg) of machine weight. The MC-30B gives up that travel for a smaller footprint and a 34 in (864 mm) door opening. Spindle, tool changer and rapids are the same rows in Fryer's table for both.
04
Fryer shows the series with its Fryer / Siemens 828-HS control, with conversational programming and absolute encoders that Fryer says never need homing. The standard supply is 40 A at 380-500 VAC, 3 phase, with 208-250 VAC optional. Air demand is 5 cfm (142 L/min) at 90 psi (6.2 bar).
