Overview
The Johnford DMC-1200H carries a No.50 spindle over a 1,300 x 850 mm (51.2 x 33.5 in) table that takes 3,800 kg (8,360 lb). It is a double column machining center with 1,200 mm (47.2 in) of X travel, 900 mm (35.43 in) of Y and 762 mm (30 in) of Z, and it is aimed at die and plate work that is cut hard.
Johnford offers two very different ways to power it. The first is a 15 / 18.5 kW (20.1 / 24.8 hp) motor with a Hi Lo Gear at 6,000 rpm, the conventional choice for face milling and boring in steel. The second is a built-in motor spindle of 26 / 31 kW (34.9 / 41.6 hp) or 31 / 40 kW (41.6 / 53.6 hp), tied in the table to the 10,000 rpm line and in the accessory list to an HSK A100 interface. The built-in spindle has no gearbox to multiply torque at low speed, so it favours high feed and high-speed roughing strategies. Which one is right depends on the cutters a shop already owns.
Both run in a BT-50 / CAT-50 taper as standard with a 90 mm (3.5 in) bearing diameter. An oil cooler for the spindle and gearbox is on the standard list and a thermal compensation system on the spindle is optional.
The frame is shared with the 40-taper DMC-1200, down to the 12,000 kg (26,400 lb) weight and the 4,735 x 3,250 x 3,780 mm (186 x 128 x 148.8 in) outline. Columns are 1,060 mm (41.7 in) apart. The arm type changer stores 24 tools as standard, each up to 15 kg (33 lb), 400 mm (15.7 in) long and Ø200 mm (Ø7.8 in) in diameter.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Two power routes: a 15 / 18.5 kW (20.1 / 24.8 hp) geared drive or built-in spindles to 31 / 40 kW (41.6 / 53.6 hp)
- 3,800 kg (8,360 lb) on a 1,300 x 850 mm (51.2 x 33.5 in) table
- BT-50 / CAT-50 taper with HSK A100 optional
- Oil cooler for spindle and gearbox is a standard accessory
- Up to 912 mm (35.9 in) from spindle nose to table
Limitations
- 6,000 rpm with the standard geared drive
- The built-in spindle options give up the Hi Lo Gear
- Parts wider than the 1,060 mm (41.7 in) column spacing will not pass
- Maximum tool diameter of Ø125 mm (Ø5 in) when adjacent pockets are full
