How much does the Fermat WRF 160/180 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Fermat WRF 160/180 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Fermat WRF 160/180 carries the two largest boring spindles of the WRF floor-type series, 160/180 mm (6.3/7.1 in). Fermat prints both in one column. Speed is given as 2,500 rpm (opt. 3,200 rpm) / 2,500 rpm, which reads as the 160 mm spindle with a faster option and the 180 mm spindle fixed at 2,500 rpm.
A thicker spindle is about stiffness when it is extended. W travel is 1,000 mm (39.4 in), and at that reach the bar diameter decides how much cut a boring tool will take without chatter and how straight a long bore comes out. The drive behind it is the one used on the WRF 150: 58/86 kW or 74/109 kW (S1/S6) with a Heidenhain or Siemens control, with 3,281/4,988 Nm or 3,349/4,923 Nm. So the choice between the two models is a choice of spindle, and of 2,500 rpm against the 2,800 rpm of the WRF 150.
Ram travel is 1,200 mm (47.2 in), optionally 1,500 mm (59.1 in). The column travels 4,000 - 27,500 mm (157.5 - 1,082.7 in), and Y runs up to 6,000 mm (236.2 in). Parts sit on floor plates or on optional rotary tables rated up to 100,000 kg (220,459 lb).
Above this model Fermat builds the WRF HEAVY, whose headstock rides between two columns and whose Y axis reaches 10,000 mm (393.7 in).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 160/180 mm (6.3/7.1 in) spindle for stiff boring at long reach
- 1,000 mm (39.4 in) of spindle travel and a 1,200 mm (47.2 in) ram
- Up to 74/109 kW (S1/S6) with Heidenhain or Siemens
- Torque of 3,281/4,988 Nm or 3,349/4,923 Nm
- Rotary table options up to 100,000 kg (220,459 lb)
Limitations
- Lowest spindle speed of the series at 2,500 rpm; the 3,200 rpm option is printed for one of the two spindle sizes only
- No more power or torque than the WRF 150 despite the larger spindle
- Fanuc version limited to 60/75 kW and 2,829/3,536 Nm
- The table does not label which spindle size each speed belongs to

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Fermat prints it as one column of the WRF table with a spindle diameter of 160/180 mm (6.3/7.1 in), so the two spindle sizes share every other row: motors, travels and rapid feed. Only the speed row separates them, as 2,500 rpm (opt. 3,200 rpm) / 2,500 rpm.
02
58/86 kW or 74/109 kW (S1/S6) with a Heidenhain or Siemens CNC, giving 3,281/4,988 Nm or 3,349/4,923 Nm. With Fanuc the table lists 60/75 kW and 2,829/3,536 Nm (S1/S3). These rows are shared with the WRF 150.
03
X is 4,000 - 27,500 mm (157.5 - 1,082.7 in) and Y is one of eight lengths from 2,500 mm (98.4 in) to 6,000 mm (236.2 in). The ram moves 1,200 mm (47.2 in) in Z, or 1,500 mm (59.1 in) with the option, and the spindle 1,000 mm (39.4 in) in W. Rapid feed is 20,000 and 15,000 mm/min in X and Y and 10,000 mm/min in Z and W.
04
When the part is taller than 6,000 mm (236.2 in). The WRF HEAVY offers Y travels of 6,000/8,000/10,000 mm (236.2/315.0/393.7 in) and a 1,600 mm (63.0 in) ram, with its headstock built between two columns. The WRF HEAVY spindle is 150 / 160 mm (5.9 / 6.3 in), so it does not exceed the diameters offered here.
