How much does the Fehlmann VERSA 745 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Fehlmann VERSA 745 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Fehlmann VERSA 745 is the middle 5-axis machine of the VERSA portal range, built for workpieces up to Ø 500 mm and 400 mm high. Travels are 500 mm (19.7 in) in X, 650 mm (25.6 in) in Y and 420 mm (16.5 in) in Z. The rotary tilting table sits along the X axis and is driven by torque motors, with A swivelling 255° (+120° / -135°) and C rotating endlessly through 360°.
Where the VERSA 645 linear stops at 16.9 kW, this machine can be ordered with considerably more spindle power. Four spindles are listed at S6 (40% ED): 50 - 14,000 rpm or 50 - 18,000 rpm with 26.3 kW (35.3 hp), 50 - 24,000 rpm with 25 kW (33.5 hp), and 50 - 30,000 rpm with 13.7 kW (18.4 hp). The choice is between a spindle for steel and tough materials and one for small tools. No torque figures are given, so compare the torque curves before deciding.
Fehlmann builds the machine on a grey cast iron base with three-point support and describes the set-up as thermo-symmetrical, with cooled slide components and a cooled structure. Only 2 axes on the tool side take part in cutting. The X axis that carries the table is supported along the whole bed, and the swivel bridge has a counter-bearing. The machine weighs 10,000 kg (22,046 lb) and stands 3.25 m high on a 2.43 x 2.73 m footprint, so check ceiling height and floor loading before delivery.
The chain magazine holds 42 tools in the basic version and 74 after the upgrade. An optional rack magazine on the left side adds from 112 to 600 tools, depending on the tool holder. The right side is kept clear for an automatic loading door, so a robot or pallet system can be connected later while the operator still loads from the front or by crane through the roof opening. Control is the Heidenhain TNC7, and the feed rate / rapid feed row reads 1-50,000 mm/min.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Takes 5-axis workpieces up to Ø 500 mm and 400 mm high on a torque-motor rotary tilting table
- Four spindle versions, from 50 - 14,000 rpm with 26.3 kW (35.3 hp) to 50 - 30,000 rpm with 13.7 kW (18.4 hp)
- A axis range of 255° (+120° / -135°) and an endlessly rotating C axis
- Chain magazine grows from 42 to 74 places, and an optional rack magazine adds 112 to 600 tools
- Grey cast iron base on three-point support, with cooled slide components and a cooled machine structure
Limitations
- At 10,000 kg (22,046 lb) and 3.25 m tall, it needs a checked floor and enough headroom
- The 30,000 rpm spindle is rated 13.7 kW (18.4 hp), about half the 26.3 kW of the 14,000 and 18,000 rpm versions
- Parts above Ø 500 mm need the VERSA 945, which takes a diameter of 650 mm
- Through-spindle high-pressure coolant, chip conveyor, measuring systems and zero-point clamping are listed as options
- The specification states no torque, spindle taper or table load

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Fehlmann lists a maximum 5-axis workpiece of 500 mm diameter and 400 mm height. Linear travels are 500 x 650 x 420 mm and the distance from table to spindle nose runs from 100 to 520 mm. The next size up, the VERSA 945, takes 650 mm diameter and 460 mm height.
02
Four versions, each starting at 50 rpm: up to 14,000 rpm or 18,000 rpm with 26.3 kW (35.3 hp), up to 24,000 rpm with 25 kW (33.5 hp), and up to 30,000 rpm with 13.7 kW (18.4 hp). The ratings are at S6 (40% ED). Pick by material: the two slower spindles carry the most power, the fastest one is for small tools.
03
The VERSA 743 is the 3-axis machine on the same travels of 500 x 650 x 420 mm, with a fixed clamping surface of 770 x 660 mm and a table load of 800 kg instead of the rotary tilting table. Both list the same four spindles, the same magazine sizes and a weight of 10,000 kg.
04
The chain magazine has a capacity for 42 tools in the basic version and can be upgraded to 74 tools. On top of that, an optional rack magazine accommodates from 112 to 600 additional tools, depending on the tool holder, and is installed on the left side of the machine so the right side stays free for automation.
05
Weight and height. The machine weighs 10,000 kg (22,046 lb) and measures 2.43 / 2.73 / 3.25 m in width, depth and height. The door extends into the roof for crane loading, so leave crane clearance above the 3.25 m, and keep the right side open if automation may follow.
