How much does the Fehlmann VERSA 645 linear cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Fehlmann VERSA 645 linear that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Fehlmann VERSA 645 linear is the smallest 5-axis machine in the VERSA portal range: 350 mm (13.8 in) of X, 500 mm (19.7 in) of Y and 320 mm (12.6 in) of Z, with a tilting rotary table that takes a workpiece up to 350 mm in diameter and 330 mm high. What separates it from the larger VERSA machines is in the name. Fehlmann says the linear drives permit high acceleration without giving up precision, and the feed rate / rapid feed row of the table runs to 50,000 mm/min (1,969 ipm).
Only two axes sit on the tool side. X carries the table and is supported along the entire bed length, and the swivel bridge has a counter-bearing. The A axis swivels through 255° (+120° / -135°) and C covers 0° - 360°, both on direct drives with cooled torque motors and angular measuring systems. Because the table is integrated lengthwise into the machine, Fehlmann states that the swivel area is unaffected by the linear axes.
Two spindles are listed, both rated at S6 (40% ED): 50 - 30,000 rpm with 13.7 kW (18.4 hp), or 50 - 42,000 rpm with 16.9 kW (22.7 hp). Those are speeds for small cutters and finishing passes, not for heavy roughing, and the envelope agrees: the distance from table to spindle nose is 100 - 420 mm. The table gives no torque and no taper, so ask which tool interface goes with each spindle.
The chain magazine holds 50 tools in the basic version and can be upgraded to 86; the tool changer row of the table continues to "160 up to 600, scalable". Parts are loaded from the front, the door reaches into the roof for crane loading, and the right side stays free so that a robot can be added later. All of it stands on 1.99 / 2.46 / 2.90 m (width / depth / height) and weighs 7,500 kg (16,534 lb). The control is a Heidenhain TNC7.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Linear drives, with a feed rate / rapid feed row that runs to 50,000 mm/min (1,969 ipm)
- Spindle choice of 50 - 30,000 rpm with 13.7 kW (18.4 hp) or 50 - 42,000 rpm with 16.9 kW (22.7 hp), at S6 (40% ED)
- A axis swivels 255° (+120° / -135°) on direct drives with cooled torque motors
- Chain magazine for 50 tools in the basic version, upgradable to 86 tools
- Cooled slide components and a cooled machine structure on a gray cast iron base with three-point support
- The right side of the machine stays accessible, so robot automation can be retrofitted
Limitations
- 5-axis workpieces are limited to 350 mm in diameter and 330 mm in height
- X travel is 350 mm (13.8 in); the VERSA 745 offers 500 mm on that axis
- Spindle power tops out at 16.9 kW (22.7 hp), so heavy roughing with large cutters is not what it is for
- The spec table gives no torque, taper or table load, so those have to be confirmed with Fehlmann
- Through-spindle high-pressure coolant, chip conveyor, measuring systems and minimum-quantity lubrication are listed as options

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The table lists a maximum 5-axis workpiece of 350 mm diameter and 330 mm height. Travels are 350 mm in X, 500 mm in Y and 320 mm in Z, and the distance from table to spindle nose is 100 - 420 mm. For a larger part, the VERSA 745 takes a workpiece of 500 mm diameter and 400 mm height.
02
Two. One runs from 50 - 30,000 rpm with 13.7 kW (18.4 hp), the other from 50 - 42,000 rpm with 16.9 kW (22.7 hp), both rated at S6 (40% ED). The table does not state torque or the tool taper, so check which holder system each spindle uses before ordering tooling.
03
The chain magazine has a capacity for 50 tools in the basic version and can be upgraded to 86 tools. The tool changer row of the specification continues with "160 up to 600, scalable", which points to larger magazine configurations; ask Fehlmann which of them apply to your tool holder.
04
The VERSA 643 linear is the 3-axis version: in place of the tilting rotary table it has a fixed clamping surface of 620 x 500 mm with a permissible table load of 400 kg. Travels of 350 x 500 x 320 mm, the two spindles, the 50,000 mm/min feed row and the 7,500 kg weight are the same on both.
05
Yes. The automatic loading door is on the right side of the machine, which Fehlmann keeps accessible so that standardized or customized robot automation can be retrofitted at any time. The cell is then run either by a pallet management integrated in the control or by the FEHLMANN MCM (Milling Center Manager). The front stays free for setup and crane loading.
