Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Danobat IRD-500 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Danobat IRD-500 sits in the middle of the Overbeck IRD series of internal, external and radius grinders. It grinds bores up to 300 mm (11.81 in) in diameter and 200 mm (7.87 in) deep, with an external grinding length of 150 mm (5.91 in), and its workhead swivels +91° / -15° on the B0 axis.
Two figures in its table are printed as alternatives and deserve a question to the maker. Swing is given as 360 / 410 mm (14.17 / 16.14 in). Workpiece weight including clamping is given as 80 kg (176 lb) / 100 Nm to 180 kg (397 lb) / 300 Nm. Neither row says what selects the higher value, so a buyer with a part near either limit should have the configuration confirmed in writing.
Compared with the IRD-300, the middle model doubles the internal grinding length and lengthens the part: 400 mm (15.75 in) including clamping instead of 250 mm (9.84 in). Travels grow to 450 mm (17.72 in) in X and 485 mm (19.09 in) in Z. The turret grows too. Danobat lists a direct driven spindle turret with a 300° swivelling range and the capacity for up to 5 spindles and one measuring probe, which is enough for a roughing wheel, a finishing wheel, a face wheel and an external wheel with a station to spare.
The process list for the IRD is ID, OD, face, taper, radius, thread, non-round and jig grinding in a single setup. Size on the floor is 215 x 275 x 225 cm (84.65 x 108.27 x 88.58 in), height x width x depth, identical to the ID-500. Danobat also says the DoGrind+ software monitors energy consumption per workpiece.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Up to 5 spindles and one measuring probe on a direct driven turret with a 300° swivelling range
- B0 workhead swivel of +91° / -15° for full radius grinding
- Internal grinding to 300 mm (11.81 in) in diameter and 200 mm (7.87 in) in length
- Weight rating reaches 180 kg (397 lb) / 300 Nm including clamping
- Same 215 x 275 x 225 cm outer dimensions as the ID-500, with radius capability added
Limitations
- Swing is printed as 360 / 410 mm (14.17 / 16.14 in) with no explanation of which applies
- External grinding length of 150 mm (5.91 in), against 400 mm (15.75 in) on the IRD-700
- Maximum swing is smaller than the 560 mm (22.05 in) of the ID-500 in the same size of machine
- Spindle speeds, powers and wheel dimensions are not published in the table

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Danobat prints it as 360 / 410 mm (14.17 / 16.14 in), two values in one cell with no note saying what distinguishes them. Treat 360 mm (14.17 in) as the safe figure until Danobat confirms what the 410 mm (16.14 in) value requires. The maximum workpiece length including clamping is 400 mm (15.75 in).
02
Up to 5 spindles and one measuring probe, on a direct driven turret with a 300° swivelling range. Danobat notes that the larger IRD models feature up to 5 spindles and a measuring probe, while the IRD-300 offers up to 3.
03
The IRD-700 is a much larger machine: the IRD-700 swings 700 mm (27.56 in), grinds bores to 500 mm (19.69 in) and travels 700 mm (27.56 in) in both X and Z, with a 500 kg (1,102 lb) / 500 Nm rating. The IRD-500 offers a 300 mm (11.81 in) bore capacity, 450 mm (17.72 in) of X and 485 mm (19.09 in) of Z. Both have the +91° / -15° B0 swivel and up to 5 spindles.

Danobat lists ID, OD, face, taper, radius, thread, non-round and jig grinding in a single setup. DoGrind+ has assistants for thread, non-round, jig and taper grinding, and profiles are programmed directly on the control with no external software. Dressing choices include a radius dresser and a dressing revolver.
