Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Glebar DD-7 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Glebar DD-7 is a double disc grinder for small parts: it grinds both ends of a component at once between two opposed wheels to control length and perpendicularity. Stock diameter runs from 0.031 in (0.8 mm) to 0.500 in (13 mm), depending on the application, and stock length is listed as 5 in (12.7 cm). Typical work is carbide drill blanks for printed circuit boards, carbide pins, ceramic blocks, alumina tubes and roller bearings.
Each wheel has its own 3 hp (2.2 kW) motor and turns at 3,450 rpm. The wheels are 1 in (25 mm) wide, and the machine is built with either two 7 in (178 mm) wheels or two 10 in (254 mm) wheels. Brushless servo motors move the slides under closed-loop control. A brake dresser with a diamond roll is available.
How parts are presented is the main decision. The DD-7 can be set up in three fixturing modes: vertical with a carriage, thrufeed, or a precision fixture, chosen by part shape and by how much automation is wanted. For carbide drill blanks Glebar quotes 5,000 per hour. Gauging and conveyors can be integrated, and the interface software can be extended to control bowl feeders and robots.
Glebar says no double disc grinder has a smaller footprint. The numbers are 89 x 53 x 78 in (226 x 135 x 198 cm) and 5,500 lb (2,495 kg), on a 6 in (152 mm) thick granite bed. It needs 480 VAC, 60 Hz at 35 A and 4 CFM of air at 80 PSI.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Grinds both ends at once, controlling length and perpendicularity on parts from 0.031 in (0.8 mm) to 0.500 in (13 mm) in diameter
- Three fixturing modes: Vertical (Carriage), Thrufeed, or Precision Fixture
- Glebar quotes 5,000 carbide drill blanks per hour
- Brushless servo motors on the slides with closed-loop drive
- 6 in (152 mm) thick granite bed under a 5,500 lb (2,495 kg) machine
- Choice of two 7 in (178 mm) wheels or two 10 in (254 mm) wheels
Limitations
- Stock diameter tops out at 0.500 in (13 mm), and Glebar notes the range is application dependent
- Stock length is listed as 5 in (12.7 cm)
- Each wheel motor is 3 hp (2.2 kW), which suits small end faces, not heavy stock removal
- The brake dresser with diamond roll is an available item
- Glebar's table gives no length or parallelism tolerance, so capability has to be proven on sample parts

Frequently Asked Questions
01
It grinds the two ends of a small component at the same time between a pair of wheels, which controls the part's length and the perpendicularity of its ends. Glebar lists printed circuit board drill blanks, carbide pins, ceramic blocks, alumina tubes and roller bearings as common applications.
02
Stock diameter from 0.031 in (0.8 mm) to 0.500 in (13 mm), which Glebar marks as application dependent, and a stock length of 5 in (12.7 cm). The grinding wheels are 1 in (25 mm) wide.
03
Vertical (Carriage), Thrufeed, and Precision Fixture. Glebar says the choice depends on the shape of the part and the degree of automation required. Thrufeed suits continuous high-volume work, while a precision fixture locates parts individually.
04
Glebar states that the design can grind 5,000 carbide drill blanks per hour. Each of the two wheels is driven by a 3 hp (2.2 kW) motor at 3,450 rpm, and the slides are moved by brushless servo motors.
05
The footprint is 89 x 53 x 78 in (226 x 135 x 198 cm) and the weight 5,500 lb (2,495 kg). Electrical supply is 480 VAC, 60 Hz at 35 A, and air consumption is 4 CFM at 80 PSI.
