Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Danobat IED-500 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
Two turrets working at once define the Danobat IED-500. Where the ID models of the Overbeck ID/IED series grind a bore and then an outside diameter, the IED brings what Danobat calls a dual-turret design for simultaneous ID and OD grinding, and credits it with cutting cycle times by up to 50%. It is the production variant of the family.
The second slide shows in the spec table as its own pair of axes. X and Z travel 220 mm (8.66 in) and 550 mm (21.65 in); X2 and Z2 travel 320 mm (12.60 in) and 450 mm (17.72 in). No other machine in the series lists X2 and Z2 strokes.
Capacity is balanced between inside and outside. Bores up to 300 mm (11.81 in) are ground to a length of 150 mm (5.91 in), and outside diameters up to 300 mm (11.81 in) to a length of 250 mm (9.84 in). Swing is 300 mm (11.81 in) and the part with its clamping can be 250 mm (9.84 in) long, so the IED-500 gives up the 560 mm (22.05 in) swing of the ID-500 in exchange for the second wheel in the cut. Workpiece weight including clamping is listed as 80 kg (176 lb) / 100 Nm to 180 kg (397 lb) / 300 Nm.
Everything else is shared Overbeck practice: natural granite base, linear motors with active cooling, a direct-drive workhead built in-house, and grinding spindles with integrated motors. Danobat's turret description for the series is a direct driven unit with a 300° swivelling range and up to 4 spindles and one measuring probe. At 220 x 250 x 255 cm (86.61 x 98.43 x 100.39 in), height x width x depth, the machine is deeper than the ID-500 and narrower.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Dual-turret design grinds ID and OD simultaneously; Danobat states cycle time reductions of up to 50%
- Separate X2 and Z2 axes with 320 mm (12.60 in) and 450 mm (17.72 in) of stroke
- External grinding length of 250 mm (9.84 in), the longest in the ID/IED series
- Z travel of 550 mm (21.65 in) on the first slide
- Weight rating up to 180 kg (397 lb) / 300 Nm including the clamping system
Limitations
- Swing is 300 mm (11.81 in), well under the 560 mm (22.05 in) of the ID-500
- Internal grinding length is 150 mm (5.91 in), less than the 200 mm (7.87 in) of the ID-500
- X travel on the first slide is 220 mm (8.66 in), the shortest X stroke in the series
- Two wheels in the cut mean two dressing and measuring set-ups to maintain; the table gives no spindle or wheel data for either

Frequently Asked Questions
01
A second turret for external grinding. Danobat describes the IED as a dual-turret design for simultaneous ID and OD grinding, cutting cycle times by up to 50%. In the table this appears as an extra pair of axes: X2 with 320 mm (12.60 in) of stroke and Z2 with 450 mm (17.72 in), beside X at 220 mm (8.66 in) and Z at 550 mm (21.65 in).
02
The swing diameter is 300 mm (11.81 in). Bores are ground up to 300 mm (11.81 in) in diameter and 150 mm (5.91 in) in length, outside diameters up to 300 mm (11.81 in) over 250 mm (9.84 in). The workpiece with its clamping system is limited to 250 mm (9.84 in) in length.
03
The ID-500 is the bigger single-turret machine: a 560 mm (22.05 in) swing, 500 mm (19.69 in) external diameter and 200 mm (7.87 in) of internal grinding length. The IED-500 reverses the emphasis, with 250 mm (9.84 in) of external length against 150 mm (5.91 in) on the ID-500. Both carry the same weight row.
04
Danobat lists the machine at 220 x 250 x 255 cm (86.61 x 98.43 x 100.39 in), given as height x width x depth. Loading equipment is extra. The series accepts robotic, gantry or hybrid automation, and the space those take depends on the layout chosen.
