Overview

The Campro NV-1020 is the fast one among the maker's 40-taper vertical machining centers. Its X and Y axes rapid at 48 m/min (1,889.7 in/min) and Z at 32 m/min (1,259.8 in/min), on travels of 1,020 mm (40.1 in), 610 mm (24 in) and 610 mm (24 in).

Campro's explanation for the speed is the guideway choice. The NV series uses heavy-duty roller type linear guideways on 3 axes, which the maker presents as combining the cutting ability of a box way with the movement of a linear guide. The Z axis has no counter-balance: a servo motor with brake carries the head, which Campro says gives better surface accuracy in 3D machining. The spindle is described as having a thermally symmetric structure to reduce thermal deformation.

Y travel is generous for the class. At 610 mm (24 in) it equals the full depth of the 1,120 × 610 mm (44 in x 24 in) table, and the spindle center stands 688 mm (27 in) from the column. The table carries 800 kg (1,763 lb). Campro also mentions an optional 4/5-axis table.

The standard spindle runs to 10,000 rpm with an 11 / 15 kW (20 HP) motor, and the table lists faster options (OPT: 12,000 / 15,000 rpm). The magazine holds 24 tools and can be ordered larger (OPT: 30 / 32 / 40). Tool change takes 2.5 sec tool to tool, 7 sec chip to chip. Weight is 7,100 kg (15,652 lb), and the power capacity is 25 kVA.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 48 m/min rapids in X and Y and 32 m/min in Z, the fastest of Campro's vertical machining centers
  • 610 mm (24 in) of Y travel, matching the full table depth
  • 10,000 rpm standard spindle with 11 / 15 kW (20 HP) and faster spindles optional (OPT: 12,000 / 15,000 rpm)
  • Roller type linear guideways on 3 axes and a Z axis driven without counter-balance
  • Magazine of 24 tools, expandable (OPT: 30 / 32 / 40)

Limitations

  • Chip to chip time of 7 sec does not match the pace of the axes
  • Table load of 800 kg (1,763 lb) is below the 1,100 kg (2,425 lb) of the box-way CPV-1100B-BT40
  • Tools limited to 7 kg (15 lb), 250 mm (9.8 in) and Ø80 mm (Ø3.1 in)
  • Needs 25 kVA, more than the 15 kVA of the CNV-1050
06

Best For

Production parts with many short moves, where 48 m/min rapids cut non-cutting time 3D contouring of molds and dies with the optional 15,000 rpm spindle Wide parts that need 610 mm (24 in) of Y in a 1,020 mm machine Aluminium and general steel work up to 800 kg (1,763 lb)

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How fast is the NV-1020?

Rapid feedrate is 48 / 48 / 32 m/min (1,889.7 / 1,889.7 / 1,259.8 in/min) in X / Y / Z, and the cutting feedrate is 10,000 mm/min (393.7 in/min). The larger NV-1280 is listed at 36 / 36 / 24 m/min. Tool change is 2.5 sec tool to tool and 7 sec chip to chip.

02 What guideways does the NV-1020 use?

Campro states that the NV series has heavy-duty roller type linear guideways on 3 axes, with pretensioned class C3 precision ballscrews. The X axis has three blocks to support the working table. The Z axis uses a servo motor with brake instead of a counter-balance.

03 Which spindle speeds are available on the NV-1020?

10,000 rpm is standard, with 12,000 and 15,000 rpm listed as options. The spindle motor is 11 / 15 kW (20 HP) and the taper is 7/24 taper No.40 with BT-40 tool shanks. Campro describes a thermal symmetry structure of the spindle intended to reduce thermal deformation.

04 What is the table size and load of the NV-1020?

The table measures 1,120 × 610 mm (44 in x 24 in) and the maximum loading weight is 800 kg (1,763 lb). Spindle nose to table surface is 85~695 mm (3.3 in ~ 27.3 in). T-slots are 18 mm wide, five in number, at 100 mm pitch.

05 How much space does the NV-1020 need?

The floor plan is 3,330 × 2,350 mm (131 in x 92 in) and the maximum machine height is 2,770 mm (109 in). The machine weighs 7,100 kg (15,652 lb). Power capacity is 25 kVA and the air source 6~8 kg/cm² (85 ~ 113 PSI).
