Overview

With 1,280 mm (50.3 in) of X travel and a table rated for 1,200 kg (2,645 lb), the Campro NV-1280 is the larger of the two NV series vertical machining centers. Y travel is 650 mm (25.5 in) and Z is 630 mm (24.8 in).

The series idea is a linear-guide machine that can still take a real cut. Campro fits heavy-duty roller type linear guideways on 3 axes and supports the table on three blocks along the X axis, which it says gives maximum rigidity and loading capacity. That shows in the rating: the NV-1280 carries half as much again as the 800 kg (1,763 lb) of the NV-1020, on a table of 1,380 × 650 mm (54.3 in x 25.5 in).

It pays for the size in speed. Rapids are 36 m/min in X and Y and 24 m/min in Z, where the NV-1020 reaches 48 m/min and 32 m/min. Those are still quick figures for a machine of 8,500 kg (18,739 lb).

Spindle and magazine are shared with the smaller model. Standard speed is 10,000 rpm on an 11 / 15 kW (20 HP) motor, with higher speeds optional (OPT: 12,000 / 15,000 rpm). Campro states the spindle comes with an oil cooler as standard to hold a constant operating temperature. The arm type changer stores 24 BT-40 tools and larger magazines are listed (OPT: 30 / 32 / 40). The one-piece column has a shoulder that supports the tool magazine, which Campro says reduces vibration during tool changes.

The floor plan is 3,750 × 2,500 mm (147 in x 98 in), height 2,800 mm (110 in), and power capacity 25 kVA.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 1,200 kg (2,645 lb) table load on roller type linear guideways
  • 1,380 × 650 mm (54.3 in x 25.5 in) table with 650 mm (25.5 in) of Y travel
  • 36 m/min rapids in X and Y on an 8,500 kg (18,739 lb) machine
  • Spindle oil cooler fitted as standard, per Campro
  • Spindle options up to 15,000 rpm and magazines up to 40 tools

Limitations

  • Rapids are lower than the NV-1020, which lists 48 / 48 / 32 m/min
  • Same 11 / 15 kW (20 HP) motor as the NV-1020 despite the heavier table load
  • 7 sec chip to chip tool change
  • Tool weight limit of 7 kg (15 lb) rules out large face mills

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the difference between the NV-1280 and the NV-1020?

The NV-1280 has 1,280 mm (50.3 in) of X travel, a 1,380 × 650 mm (54.3 in x 25.5 in) table and a 1,200 kg (2,645 lb) load, with 36 / 36 / 24 m/min rapids. The NV-1020 has 1,020 mm (40.1 in) of X, an 800 kg (1,763 lb) load and 48 / 48 / 32 m/min rapids. Spindle and tool changer are the same.

02 What spindle is fitted to the NV-1280?

A 7/24 taper No.40 spindle at 10,000 rpm as standard, with 12,000 and 15,000 rpm options, driven by an 11 / 15 kW (20 HP) motor. Campro states that the spindle is equipped with an oil cooler as standard to maintain a constant operating temperature and prevent thermal expansion.

03 How many tools does the NV-1280 hold?

24 as standard in an arm type changer, with larger magazines listed as options (OPT: 30 / 32 / 40). Tools can be Ø80 mm (Ø3.1 in), or Ø150 mm (Ø5.9 in) with adjacent pockets empty, 250 mm (9.8 in) long and 7 kg (15 lb). Tool to tool time is 2.5 sec.

04 What are the clearances under the spindle of the NV-1280?

The distance from spindle nose to table surface is 100~730 mm (3.9 in ~ 28.7 in), and the distance from spindle center to column is 722 mm (28.4 in). Z axis travel is 630 mm (24.8 in). Campro notes that an optional 4/5-axis table is available for the series.
