Overview

Spindle choice matters more than length on the AWEA MCP-10060, a 10,000 mm (393.7 in) by 6,400 mm (252.0 in) moving column machine whose specification leaves the head open to five variants. The speed row is printed as "4,000 Gear Spindle (Std.);5,000 / 6,000 Gear Spindle (Opt.);8,000 / 12,000 Built-in Spindle (Opt.)". One motor rating covers the row: 22 / 26 kW (29.5 / 34.9 hp). The taper is BBT50 throughout.

Read that row against the work. A gear spindle is the choice for steel and cast iron, where large face mills and long boring bars want torque at low speed. The built-in spindles trade that for speed and are aimed at aluminium structures and finishing passes with smaller cutters. A shop that does both has to decide which side to favour, because the table shows one spindle per machine, not a pair.

Vertical reach has an option of its own. Z travel is 1,400 mm (55.1 in), or 1,600 mm to order. With the standard stroke the spindle nose sits 800 ~ 2,200 mm (31.5 ~ 86.6 in) above the table; the optional stroke lowers the bottom of that range to 600 mm. A nose that cannot come closer than 800 mm to the table means low parts need risers or long tooling, so flat plate work is the case for the longer Z.

The table is 10,000 x 4,800 mm (393.7 x 189.0 in) and stays still while the columns travel. AWEA describes the headstock as sitting in a U-shaped saddle that fully surrounds it, on four linear guide ways with ten sliding blocks, a design it says holds accuracy when the headstock is fully extended.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Five spindle variants in the table: gear 4,000 standard, gear 5,000 / 6,000 and built-in 8,000 / 12,000 as options
  • 22 / 26 kW (29.5 / 34.9 hp) spindle motor on a BBT50 taper
  • Optional 1,600 mm Z travel brings the spindle nose down to 600 mm above the table
  • Headstock carried in a U-shaped saddle on four linear guide ways with ten sliding blocks
  • 10,000 x 4,800 mm (393.7 x 189.0 in) fixed table under 6,400 mm (252.0 in) of Y travel

Limitations

  • The spindle speed row is printed without a unit and without torque figures
  • With standard Z the spindle nose stays at least 800 mm (31.5 in) above the table
  • Every spindle faster than the standard gear type is an option
  • Rapid traverse is 10 m/min (394 ipm) on all three axes, modest over a 10,000 mm stroke

Best For

Steel and cast iron structures roughed with the gear spindle Aluminium frames when a built-in spindle is ordered Tall fabrications that use the 2,200 mm (86.6 in) nose height Parts up to 10,000 mm long and 4,800 mm wide

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Which spindles are offered on the MCP-10060?

AWEA prints the row as "4,000 Gear Spindle (Std.);5,000 / 6,000 Gear Spindle (Opt.);8,000 / 12,000 Built-in Spindle (Opt.)". So the standard machine has a gear spindle, two faster gear spindles are optional and two built-in spindles are optional. The motor is listed at 22 / 26 kW (29.5 / 34.9 hp) and the taper is BBT50.

02 Should I order the 1,600 mm Z option?

It depends on part height. Standard Z is 1,400 mm (55.1 in) with the spindle nose 800 ~ 2,200 mm (31.5 ~ 86.6 in) from the table. The option changes that range to 600 ~ 2,200 mm. The top stays the same; the gain is at the bottom, which helps on low plates and shallow frames that would otherwise need raising blocks.

03 How long a tool can the magazine handle?

Up to 400 mm (15.7 in) and 20 kg (44 lb). Diameter is limited to Ø125 mm (Ø4.9 in), or Ø200 mm (Ø7.9 in) when the adjacent pockets are empty. The magazine holds 40T as standard and 60T as an option.

04 What stops the headstock deflecting at full extension?

The maker's answer is the saddle. AWEA says the headstock sits in a U-shaped saddle with reinforced front structures that fully surrounds it, and that four linear guide ways and ten sliding blocks add rigidity. It claims the design reduces distortion even when the headstock is fully extended. The specification table itself gives no deflection or accuracy figure for this model.

05 Is there a narrower machine with the same X travel?

Yes, two. The MCP-10050 has 10,000 mm (393.7 in) of X with 5,400 mm (212.6 in) of Y and a 10,000 x 3,800 mm (393.7 x 149.6 in) table. The MCP-10040 has 4,400 mm (173.2 in) of Y and a 10,000 x 2,800 mm (393.7 x 110.2 in) table. Both list the same spindle row as this machine.
