Overview
The AWEA LP-3021YF is the shortest of the four LP-21YF bridge type 5-face machining centers: 3,000 mm (118.1 in) of X, 2,400 mm (94.5 in) of Y and 760 mm (29.9 in) of Z over a 3,020 x 2,010 mm (118.9 x 79.1 in) table. Being the shortest also makes it the quickest and the tightest of its group. The X axis rapids at 20,000 mm/min (787 ipm), and positioning under VDI is P ≤ 0.025 mm over full travel with repeatability of Ps ≤ 0.020 mm.
Why the YF and not the plain bridge mill? The LP-3021 shares the table, the 10,000 kg (22,046 lb) load rating and the 2,300 mm (90.6 in) between columns, but it stops at 2,100 mm (82.7 in) of Y and weighs 33,000 kg (72,751 lb) against 34,000 kg (74,956 lb) here. The longer Y stroke is what side machining asks for. A horizontal head has to clear the edge of the 2,010 mm wide table before it can turn in on a side face, and a stroke longer than the table is wide leaves room for that on both sides.
AWEA describes the LP series as becoming a 5-face machining center through an automatic head changer and a vertical / horizontal ATC system. The head storage magazine has two cabinets, one for the horizontal head and one for the spindle cap. Each sits behind its own swing door that opens only during an exchange, which keeps chips and coolant out of the stored head.
The spindle row lists 6,000 rpm on a 22 / 26 kW (30 / 35 HP) motor with a BT50 (ISO50) taper. For its 6,000 rpm high torque spindle AWEA states 642 N-m at 387 rpm through a 2-speed gear box. Direct drive spindles of 8,000 / 10,000 rpm are the listed options.
