Overview

The AWEA HVM-6025 stretches the 2,500 mm (98.4 in) column frame of the HVM series to its longest bed. X travel is 6,000 mm (236.2 in), Y is 3,200 mm (126.0 in), Z is 1,000 mm (39.3 in), and the table measures 6,020 x 2,010 mm (237.0 x 79.1 in). This five-face bridge type machining center is aimed at one kind of part: long, heavy, and not especially wide.

Heavy is the operative word. At 17,000 kg (37,400 lb) the table rating is well above the 12,000 kg (26,400 lb) given for the HVM-5025, so this is the first machine on the frame that can take a solid casting or a filled fixture plate along most of its length. If the part is wider as well, the HVM-6032 has a 6,020 x 2,400 mm (237.0 x 94.5 in) table rated for 20,000 kg (44,000 lb), and its listed weight and length match this machine's: 57,000 kg (125,400 lb) and 14,875 mm (585 in).

Expect slower motion than on the short models. X rapid is 10,000 mm/min (394 ipm). The cutting feed range tops out at 5,000 mm/min (196.9 IPM), half the 10,000 mm/min (393.7 IPM) available on the HVM-4025.

Accuracy is quoted without a length allowance: ± 0.015 mm (± 0.0006 in) positioning over full travel and ± 0.003 mm (± 0.0001 in) repeatability. Over a 6,000 mm stroke, shop temperature and foundation quality will decide how much of that reaches the part.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 17,000 kg (37,400 lb) table load, against 12,000 kg (26,400 lb) on the HVM-5025
  • 6,000 mm (236.2 in) of X travel over a 6,020 x 2,010 mm (237.0 x 79.1 in) table
  • Positioning accuracy of ± 0.015 mm (± 0.0006 in) is stated for full travel, including the 6,000 mm axis
  • 60-tool magazine, expandable to 90 or 120, for long unattended cycles on large parts
  • Listed width of 6,775 mm (267 in), unchanged from the HVM-4025

Limitations

  • Cutting feed limited to 5,000 mm/min (196.9 IPM)
  • X rapid of 10,000 mm/min (394 ipm); crossing the full stroke takes time
  • No Y or Z rapid traverse figure is listed for this model
  • 14,875 mm (585 in) long and 57,000 kg (125,400 lb), a serious foundation job
  • The HVM-6032 offers 20,000 kg (44,000 lb) of table load at an equal listed length and weight

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How does the HVM-6025 compare with the HVM-6032?

Both have 6,000 mm (236.2 in) of X travel. The HVM-6025 has a 6,020 x 2,010 mm (237.0 x 79.1 in) table, 2,500 mm (98.4 in) between the columns, 3,200 mm (126.0 in) of Y and a 17,000 kg (37,400 lb) rating. The HVM-6032 has a 6,020 x 2,400 mm (237.0 x 94.5 in) table, 3,200 mm (126.0 in) between the columns, 3,900 mm (153.5 in) of Y and a 20,000 kg (44,000 lb) rating.

02 Is the cutting feed of the HVM-6025 lower than on shorter HVM models?

Yes. The HVM-6025 is listed at 1 ~ 5,000 mm/min (0.04 ~ 196.9 IPM). The HVM-5025 is listed at 1 ~ 8,000 mm/min (0.04 ~ 315.0 IPM) and the HVM-4025 at 1 ~ 10,000 mm/min (0.04 ~ 393.7 IPM). Check programmed feeds for finishing with large face mills against the lower limit.

03 What is the weight capacity of the HVM-6025 table?

17,000 kg (37,400 lb). That figure includes everything on the table: the workpiece, fixtures, parallels and any rotary or angle equipment.

04 What clearance is there under the HVM-6025 spindle?

The distance from spindle nose to table is 200 ~ 1,200 mm (7.9 ~ 47.2 in) on the standard machine. A 400 ~ 1,400 mm (15.7 ~ 55.1 in) version is listed as an option. Z travel is 1,000 mm (39.3 in) in both cases, and AWEA notes the distance may vary with other options.
