Overview

The AWEA FV-960 combines a long X axis with a tilting rotary table. X travel is 960 mm (37.8 in), Y is 600 mm (23.6 in) and Z is 480 mm (18.9 in), and the table is listed as 560 x 365 mm (22.0 x 14.4 in) with a Ø350 mm platter. That layout leaves room beside the trunnion, so the machine can be used for 5-axis parts on the rotary table and for 3-axis work with a vise on the same setup.

The A-axis tilts through -42˚ ~ +120˚ and the C-axis through 360˚. Table load at 0° is given as 200 kg. An asymmetric tilt range like this favours undercut access on one side and gives the trunnion a stiffer support on the other; buyers whose parts need equal tilt both ways should compare the FV-560, whose range is 100° ~ -100°.

Power is where this model differs most from its smaller sibling. AWEA lists the spindle motor at 10 / 14 kW (13.4 / 18.8 hp) (11 / 15 kW opt.), on a direct drive BBT40 spindle with 12,000 rpm or optionally 15,000 rpm. The supply requirement is 45 kVA. Magazine capacity is 24 T (30 T / 40 T opt.).

Feeds match across the FV pair: 32 m/min (1,260 ipm) rapids in X and Y, 24 m/min (945 ipm) in Z, and cutting feed of 1~15 m/min (39~591 ipm). Listed accuracy is 0.006 mm positioning and 0.005 mm repeatability. The machine weighs 7,400 kg (16,314 lb) and measures 3,100 x 2,185 x 3,235 mm (122.0 x 86.0 x 127.4 in).

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 960 mm (37.8 in) of X travel on a 5-axis machine with an A / C table
  • Table load of 200 kg at 0° on a 560 x 365 mm (22.0 x 14.4 in) table
  • Spindle motor of 10 / 14 kW (13.4 / 18.8 hp) (11 / 15 kW opt.)
  • Magazine of 24 T (30 T / 40 T opt.)
  • HEIDENHAIN TNC640 control, with FANUC Oi -MF Plus or SIEMENS 840D as options

Limitations

  • A-axis range of -42˚ ~ +120˚ is not symmetrical
  • Z travel of 480 mm (18.9 in) limits tall parts on the tilted table
  • Requires 45 kVA, well above the 25 kVA of the FV-560
  • AWEA's structure page gives a different table size for this model than its specification table

Best For

Mid-size 5-axis parts up to 200 kg Mixed 5-axis and 3-axis work using the long X travel Aerospace and automotive components machined in one clamping Jobs needing 30 or 40 tools

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the axis travels of the AWEA FV-960?

X is 960 mm (37.8 in), Y is 600 mm (23.6 in) and Z is 480 mm (18.9 in). The A-axis swivels -42˚ ~ +120˚ and the C-axis rotates 360˚. The distance from spindle nose to table center is 100 ~ 580 mm (3.9 ~ 22.8 in).

02 What is the table size of the FV-960?

The specification table lists 560 x 365 mm (22.0 x 14.4 in) with a Ø350 mm platter and a load capacity of 200 kg at 0°. A second table on AWEA's structure page prints a slightly different rectangular size for this model, so confirm the dimensions with the maker before designing fixtures.

03 What spindle does the FV-960 have?

A direct drive BBT40 spindle at 12,000 rpm, with 15,000 rpm optional. The motor is rated 10 / 14 kW (13.4 / 18.8 hp), and an 11 / 15 kW motor is listed as an option. AWEA describes a floating hydraulic tool release that keeps unclamping pressure off the spindle bearings.

04 How many tools does the FV-960 carry?

24 as standard, with 30 T and 40 T magazines optional. Tools can be 250 mm (9.8 in) long and 7 kg (15 lb), with a diameter of Ø75 mm or Ø125 mm when adjacent pockets are empty. The arm type changer uses random tool call.
