How much does the AWEA LP-5033 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the AWEA LP-5033 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The AWEA LP-5033 pairs 5,000 mm (196.9 in) of X travel with 3,300 mm (129.9 in) of Y under a bridge whose columns stand 3,500 mm (137.8 in) apart. It is a BT50 bridge type vertical machining center for parts that are both long and wide, up to 18,000 kg (39,683 lb).
What to put in the head is the main decision, because AWEA's modular spindle design gives three families. Gear spindles come first: the standard 6,000 rpm unit delivers 642 N-m at 387 rpm, and a 4,000 rpm version reaches 977 N-m at 254 rpm, both from a 26 kW motor through a 2-speed gear box. Built-in motorized spindles, 6,000 or 8,000 rpm, are quoted at up to 600 N-m at 350 rpm; the maker's argument for them is lower vibration and longer spindle life. Direct drive spindles, 8,000 or 10,000 rpm, peak at 165 N-m at 1,500 rpm. A shop cutting large aluminium structures will read that list from the bottom, a die shop from the top.
Z is the second decision. Standard travel is 760 mm (29.9 in). AWEA ties the optional Z strokes of 1,000, 1,200 and 1,400 mm to the spindle choice in its table, so confirm which spindle is offered with the stroke you need. The Z axis runs on a hardened box way; roller type linear guide ways are an option with the direct drive spindle.
On this size X rapid traverse is 10,000 mm/min (394 ipm), with 15,000 mm/min (591 ipm) on Y and Z. The table is 5,020 x 2,400 mm (197.6 x 94.5 in), and the machine weighs 49,000 kg (108,025 lb).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Three spindle families: gear, built-in motorized and direct drive, from 4,000 to 10,000 rpm
- Optional 4,000 rpm gear spindle with 977 N-m at 254 rpm for heavy cuts
- 5,000 x 3,300 mm (196.9 x 129.9 in) of X and Y travel under 3,500 mm (137.8 in) of column spacing
- 18,000 kg (39,683 lb) table load
- Floating type hydraulic tool release that keeps pressure off the spindle bearing
Limitations
- The table is 5,020 x 2,400 mm (197.6 x 94.5 in); the MVP-5040 offers 5,020 x 3,010 mm (197.6 x 118.5 in)
- X rapid traverse of 10,000 mm/min (394 ipm), down from 15,000 mm/min (591 ipm) on the LP-4033
- The direct drive spindles are limited to 165 N-m, so high speed and high torque need different heads
- Weighs 49,000 kg (108,025 lb), against 45,000 kg (99,206 lb) for the LP-5025 with the same table

Frequently Asked Questions
01
AWEA gives these maximum figures: 977 N-m at 254 rpm for the 4,000 rpm gear spindle, 642 N-m at 387 rpm for the 6,000 rpm gear spindle, 600 N-m at 350 rpm for the built-in motorized spindles (6,000 and 8,000 rpm) and 165 N-m at 1,500 rpm for the direct drive spindles (8,000 and 10,000 rpm). The 6,000 rpm spindle is standard; the others are options.
02
Both. X and Y use roller type linear guide ways, and the Y-axis guide ways are offset from each other on the cross beam, which AWEA says shortens the distance between spindle and beam. Z uses a hardened, ground box way. With a high speed direct drive spindle, Z can optionally be built with roller type linear guide ways.
03
The LP-5033 has 3,300 mm (129.9 in) of Y travel and a 5,020 x 2,400 mm (197.6 x 94.5 in) table at 49,000 kg (108,025 lb) machine weight. The MVP-5040 has 4,000 mm (157.5 in) of Y, a 5,020 x 3,010 mm (197.6 x 118.5 in) table and weighs 83,500 kg (184,083 lb). Both carry 18,000 kg (39,683 lb) and both have 3,500 mm (137.8 in) between columns.
04
The spindle uses a floating type hydraulic tool release device. According to AWEA it eliminates pressure on the spindle bearing when a tool is released. The taper is BT50 (ISO50), with DIN69871-A as an option, and tools may weigh up to 20 kg (44 lb).
05
Under VDI the positioning accuracy is P ≤ 0.040 mm over full travel and the repeatability Ps ≤ 0.030 mm. Repeatability under JIS is ± 0.003 mm. These VDI figures equal those of the LP-5025, which has the same X travel.
