Overview

Romi stretches the D Series to 1,270 mm (50 in) of X travel in the ROMI D 1250, the longest of the four New Generation vertical machining centers. The table measures 1,320 x 560 mm (52 x 22 in) and is rated for 1,400 kg (3,000 lbs), the heaviest load in the range.

Notice how close the table length is to the stroke. With 1,320 mm of table and 1,270 mm of travel, the spindle reaches almost the whole surface, which is what you want for a single large workpiece. Clamps then have to sit within the machined area or on the part itself.

The column and head are shared with the D 800 and D 1000. Y travel is 610 mm (24 in), Z travel 640 mm (25 in), and the spindle nose sits 110 to 750 mm (4.3 to 30 in) above the table. A buyer who needs more Y than that has to look outside this four-model range. The ISO 40 spindle is offered at 10,000 rpm with 25 hp / 18.5 kW or at 15,000 rpm with 20 hp / 15 kW; maximum torque is 118 Nm (87 lb-ft) and 102 Nm (75.2 lb-ft) respectively.

Despite the long X axis, rapids remain 40 m/min (1,575 ipm) and the arm changer still swaps tools in 3.2 / 3.3 s. Magazine capacity is 30 / 48 tools. The machine occupies 3,700 x 3,795 mm (146 x 150 in) and weighs 7,000 kg (15,400 lbs) / 7,350 kg (16,200 lbs), with 35 kVA of installed power, or 40 kVA when the 15,000 rpm headstock is fitted.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Longest X travel in the series: 1,270 mm (50 in)
  • Table rated for 1,400 kg (3,000 lbs) on a 1,320 x 560 mm (52 x 22 in) surface
  • Spindle covers nearly the full table length
  • Optional 15,000 rpm headstock with a cooled cartridge
  • Tool-to-tool time of 3.2 / 3.3 s with 30 / 48 tools

Limitations

  • Y travel is 610 mm (24 in), less than half the X travel
  • Only 5 T-slots across a 560 mm deep table
  • A footprint of 3,700 x 3,795 mm (146 x 150 in) before the chip conveyor is added
  • Same 25 hp / 18.5 kW and 118 Nm (87 lb-ft) spindle as the much shorter D 600
06

Best For

Single large plates and weldments up to 1,400 kg (3,000 lbs) Long extrusions and rails up to 1,270 mm (50 in) Pendulum-style work with two setups along the table

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What size part fits on the ROMI D 1250?

Travels are 1,270 mm (50 in) in X, 610 mm (24 in) in Y and 640 mm (25 in) in Z, over a 1,320 x 560 mm (52 x 22 in) table. The table accepts 1,400 kg (3,000 lbs) uniformly distributed, and the spindle nose can be 110 to 750 mm (4.3 to 30 in) from the table.

02 Is the D 1250 slower than the smaller D Series machines?

No. Rapid traverse is 40 m/min (1,575 ipm) on X, Y and Z, the same as the D 800 and D 1000, and the maximum programmable cutting feed is 20 m/min (787 ipm). The D 600 is the slower one in rapid, at 30 m/min (1,181 ipm).

03 What control does the D 1250 have?

A Fanuc 0i-MF Plus i-HMI. Romi describes it as having a touchscreen with the new HMI, an Ethernet interface as standard, and a manual auxiliary panel with JOG and handwheel functions. Thermal compensation is listed in the standard equipment.

04 What tools can the D 1250 magazine take?

BT / CAT / DIN 40-taper holders, with BBT recommended above 10,000 rpm. Tools may be 75 mm (3 in) in diameter, 127 mm (5 in) when the adjacent stations are empty, 300 mm (11.9 in) long and 7 kg (15 lbs) each.
