Overview

With the SR32 XP, Akira Seiki moves the SR line onto a bigger casting. Travels are 815 mm (32.1 in) in X, 540 mm (21.3 in) in Y and 560 mm (22 in) in Z, and the table grows to 950 x 480 mm (37.4 x 19 in) with five 18 mm T-slots.

Compared with the SR3 XP the gain in X is small. The gain in Y, Z and capacity is not. Y goes from the 430 mm (16.9 in) of the SR3 XP to 540 mm (21.3 in), and the maximum table load on this machine is 1,080 kg (2,381 lb), with 900 kg (1,984 lb) as the standard figure. A 4th-axis table with a tailstock and a fixture plate sits comfortably inside that.

The spindle is BT40, 11,000 rpm, 18 HP (13.4 kW) peak. Magazine capacity is 24T. Rapids are 30 / 30 / 25 m/min (1,181 / 1,181 / 984 ipm), slower than the small-frame SR machines, which is the usual trade when the moving masses go up.

Plan the installation around 30 kVA, 0.5 MPa (72.5 psi) air and a 3,020 x 2,240 mm (119 x 88 in) floor area. The coolant tank holds 350 L (92.5 gal) and a chip screw clears the enclosure. Control: AKIRA Mi:845 (Fanuc G code compatible).

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 540 mm (21.3 in) of Y and 560 mm (22 in) of Z on an 815 mm (32.1 in) X machine
  • Maximum table load of 1,080 kg (2,381 lb)
  • 18 HP (13.4 kW) peak spindle with a 24T magazine
  • 350 L (92.5 gal) coolant tank

Limitations

  • Rapids of 30 / 30 / 25 m/min (1,181 / 1,181 / 984 ipm) trail the 36 / 36 / 30 m/min of the SR3 XP
  • Needs a 30 kVA supply, against 20 kVA for the SR3 XP
  • Spindle speed tops out at 11,000 rpm
  • X travel is only slightly longer than the 762 mm (30 in) of the SR3 XP

Best For

Fixture plates and rotary-table setups up to 900 kg (1,984 lb) Parts too deep for the 430 mm (16.9 in) Y of the SR3 XP Mixed steel and aluminium job-shop work Jobs that fill a 24T magazine in a single setup

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the SR32 XP travels and table size?

X is 815 mm (32.1 in), Y 540 mm (21.3 in) and Z 560 mm (22 in). The table is 950 x 480 mm (37.4 x 19 in), and the spindle nose to table distance is 75~635 mm (3-25 in).

02 How much power does the SR32 XP spindle have?

18 HP (13.4 kW) peak at up to 11,000 rpm, through a BT40 taper. The same spindle figures apply to the longer SR42 XP and SR52 XP, so within this frame the choice is about X travel, not cutting capacity.

03 Which model is the next size up from the SR32 XP?

The SR42 XP, which keeps the 540 mm (21.3 in) Y and 560 mm (22 in) Z travels and extends X to 1,050 mm (41.3 in) on a 1,200 x 480 mm (47.2 x 19 in) table.

04 What does the SR32 XP need from the shop?

A 30 kVA electrical supply, compressed air at 0.5 MPa (72.5 psi) and 3,020 x 2,240 mm (119 x 88 in) of floor. The coolant tank capacity is 350 L (92.5 gal).
