Overview
The Accuway UT-380L offers a 680 mm (26.8 in) turning diameter along 1,250 mm (49.2 in) of Z travel. In the series it is the general-purpose length: long enough for a metre of shaft, short enough that Z still rapids at 20 m/min (787 in/min).
A feature buyers of big-bore lathes look for is on the table, not on the option list. The fourth spindle column gives an A2-15 nose, an 18 in chuck and 166.5 mm (6.6 in) of bar capacity at 1,800 rpm. Oil-country tube and thick-walled pipe pass through that bore, and the gear box that comes as a standard accessory supplies torque for threading them at low speed.
Turning length depends strongly on the column chosen: 1,130 mm (44.5 in) with A2-8, 1,050 mm (41.3 in) with A2-11 and 990 mm (39.0 in) with A2-15. Tailstock body travel is 1,040 mm (40.9 in).
Machine weight is 7,500 kg (16,534 lb). That is a moderate step from the UT-380 at 6,500 kg (14,330 lb), and far less than the jump to the next bed, the UT-380LX at 11,200 kg (24,691 lb). So the L is the last UT-380 that installs like a mid-size lathe. The turret is the BOT 12-station type with Hydraulic/Servo drive; a servo turret and an APT 50 power turret are optional.
