How much does the Hwacheon VT-650Y cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Hwacheon VT-650Y that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Hwacheon VT-650Y is a Y-axis turn-mill version of the VT-650 vertical lathe. It keeps the Ø800 mm (Ø31.5 in) by 750 mm (29.5 in) turning envelope and adds ±125 mm (±4.9 in) of Y travel to driven tools as standard, so every machine sold under this name is a milling-capable one. It is offered as the VT-650Y / MC with a turret and as the VT-650Y / MG / MC with a CAPTO C5 tool magazine of 16 or 48 tools.
The Y axis is the point of the machine. With ±125 mm of offset either side of centre, the driven tools can mill flats, keyways and pockets and drill holes that do not lie on a radius, work that a C axis alone cannot reach. The driven tools are rated 5.5 / 3.7 kW (7.4 / 5.0 hp) and 3,000 rpm, with an 11 / 5.5 kW (14.8 / 7.4 hp) option for heavier milling, and the capacity is Ø26 mm drilling and M20 tapping. The C axis indexes in 0.0001° steps.
Chuck choice is wider than on the VT-650 table. The standard chuck is 18 in, with 15, 21 and 24 in as options. The spindle has an A2-11 nose, a Ø160 mm (Ø6.3 in) front bearing and 22 / 18.5 kW (29.5 / 24.8 hp), and runs to 1,500 rpm as standard; a 2,000 rpm option and a high-torque 2,000 rpm option are listed. Rapids are 20 / 16 / 16 m/min (787 / 630 / 630 ipm) on X, Z and Y, over 430 mm (16.9 in) of X and 790 mm (31.1 in) of Z.
The turret version has 12 stations; with the magazine the turret drops to 10, and the magazine takes tools up to 400 mm (15.7 in) long and 20 kgf (44 lb). Floor space is 2,200 x 3,400 mm (86.6 x 133.9 in), or 2,930 x 3,400 mm (115.4 x 133.9 in) with the magazine, at 3,300 mm (129.9 in) high. Weight is 13,000 kgf (28,660 lb), or 14,000 kgf (30,864 lb) with the magazine, and supply is 45 kVA.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- ±125 mm (±4.9 in) of Y travel as standard on every VT-650Y
- Driven tools of 5.5 / 3.7 kW (7.4 / 5.0 hp) at 3,000 rpm, with an 11 / 5.5 kW (14.8 / 7.4 hp) option
- 18 in chuck as standard with 15, 21 and 24 in options
- Optional CAPTO C5 magazine of 16 or 48 tools on the MG / MC version
- Rapids of 20 / 16 / 16 m/min (787 / 630 / 630 ipm) on X, Z and Y
Limitations
- Standard spindle speed is 1,500 rpm; 2,000 rpm is an option
- The MG / MC version reduces the turret to 10 stations
- Heavier than the base VT-650 at 13,000 kgf (28,660 lb) against 10,000 kgf (22,046 lb)
- Y travel of ±125 mm (±4.9 in) limits how far off centre features can be milled on a Ø800 mm (Ø31.5 in) part

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The VT-650Y always has the Y axis and driven tools; the VT-650 is a family of turning-only, MC, 2SP and YMC versions. The VT-650Y also lists 15, 21 and 24 in chuck options, a high-torque 2,000 rpm spindle and an 11 / 5.5 kW (14.8 / 7.4 hp) driven-tool option. The base VT-650 weighs 10,000 kgf (22,046 lb) against 13,000 kgf (28,660 lb) here.
02
±125 mm (±4.9 in), with a rapid of 16 m/min (630 ipm). It lets the driven tools cut off the centreline, for flats, pockets and holes that are not on a radius. Features further than 125 mm from centre still need indexing with the 0.0001° C axis.
03
5.5 / 3.7 kW (7.4 / 5.0 hp) at up to 3,000 rpm as standard, or 11 / 5.5 kW (14.8 / 7.4 hp) as an option. Drilling capacity is Ø26 mm and tapping capacity M20.
04
A CAPTO C5 magazine of 16 or 48 tools. Tools can be up to 400 mm (15.7 in) long and 20 kgf (44 lb). With the magazine fitted the turret has 10 stations instead of 12, and the floor space grows from 2,200 x 3,400 mm (86.6 x 133.9 in) to 2,930 x 3,400 mm (115.4 x 133.9 in).
