Overview
For parts both wide and long, Accuway offers the UT-600LX3: 900 mm (35.4 in) of turning diameter along 2,900 mm (114.2 in) of turning length. Z travel is 3,100 mm (122.0 in).
Among Accuway's three-metre lathes it has the largest cross-section by a wide margin. The UT-400LX3 turns 700 mm (27.6 in) with 380 mm (15.0 in) of X travel. This machine has 495 mm (19.5 in) of X travel and a saddle swing of 950 mm (37.4 in). The two share a motor rating and a tailstock, so the UT-600LX3 should be chosen for diameter and bore, not for extra power.
A large roll shows why the saddle swing matters. If the barrel is 900 mm across and the journals are small, the tool must pass along the barrel and then reach in to the journals at each end. With the swing over saddle nearly equal to the turning diameter, the cross slide can travel under the barrel for the full length.
The drive is 30/37 kW (40.2/49.6 hp) with a 2-step gearbox, and 37/45 kW (49.6/60.3 hp) is printed in brackets.
