Overview
Off-centre milling is what the Accuway UT-300Y adds to the UT-300 line. The turret travels ±50 mm (±2.0 in) in Y, carries rotary tools at 4,000 rpm, and works over a 750 mm (29.5 in) Z travel with a tailstock at the far end.
A Y axis lets an end mill cut a flat to a true width or a pocket with square corners, and lets a drill reach a hole that does not pass through the centreline. On the UT-300M those shapes have to be faked by combining X with C rotation. Here they are programmed directly, within the Y stroke.
The Y slide makes for a different machine body. Swing over bed is 910 mm (35.8 in) and swing over saddle 720 mm (28.3 in), both far above the UT-300M, and the machine stands 2.4 m high and weighs 6,500 kg (14,330 lb). X travel is slightly shorter at 275 mm (10.8 in). Turning diameter is 420 mm (16.5 in), turning length 540 mm (21.3 in) or 470 mm (18.5 in) by spindle column.
Y rapid traverse is 10 m/min (394 in/min), half the X figure. The rotary tool motor is 3.7/5.5 kW (5.0/7.4 hp), and the tailstock quill is slimmer than on the non-Y models at 85 mm (3.3 in). A gear box appears among the optional accessories for this model, next to the 0 degree and 90 degree rotary tool holders.
