Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Akira Seiki GT12 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Akira Seiki GT12 is a gang-tool CNC lathe. It has no turret: the tool storage row reads Gang Tool 8, meaning the tools stand in a row on the cross slide and the slide moves from one to the next. That is why X travel is 400 mm (15.7 in), far longer than on a turret lathe of this size, while Z is only 220 mm (8.7 in).
Gang tooling is quick. There is no indexing time between tools, so short parts with a handful of operations come off fast. The limits are part length and tool clearance: maximum cutting length is 200 mm (7.9 in), and every tool on the slide has to clear the chuck and the part.
Work is held in a collet, CR42 or 5C, with a 42 mm (1.7 in) draw tube bore for bar. The A2-5 spindle runs to 6,000 rpm with 17 HP (12.7 kW) and 84 Nm (62 lb-ft) at peak. Rapid feed is 36 m/min (1,417 ipm) and cutting feed 10 m/min (394 ipm).
Akira Seiki sums the machine up as flexible applications in a compact floor space, and the footprint is 1,800 x 1,580 mm (70.8 x 62.2 in) at 2,300 kg (5,071 lb). It needs 18 kVA. A chip drawer is standard and a conveyor optional. There is no tailstock in the table.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Gang tooling with no turret index time between tools
- 400 mm (15.7 in) of X travel for a row of tools
- 6,000 rpm A2-5 spindle with a 42 mm (1.7 in) draw tube bore
- Footprint of 1,800 x 1,580 mm (70.8 x 62.2 in) on 18 kVA
Limitations
- Maximum cutting length of 200 mm (7.9 in)
- No tailstock is listed, so long slender parts are out
- Collet workholding only: CR42 or 5C
- Peak torque of 84 Nm (62 lb-ft)

Frequently Asked Questions
01
A gang-tool lathe. The tool storage row of the maker's table reads Gang Tool 8 instead of a turret station count, and X travel is 400 mm (15.7 in) to carry the row of tools past the spindle.
02
The draw tube bore is 42 mm (1.7 in), and the chuck row lists a collet, CR42 / 5C. The table does not give a separate bar capacity figure.
03
Maximum speed 6,000 rpm, peak power 17 HP (12.7 kW), peak torque 84 Nm (62 lb-ft), spindle nose A2-5. Rapid feed in X and Z is 36 m/min (1,417 ipm).
04
The SL15 is a turret lathe with 10 stations, 24 HP (17.9 kW) and 137 Nm (101 lb-ft), on the same collet and 42 mm (1.7 in) bore. The GT12 trades the turret for gang tooling and a longer X axis.
