Overview

With the UM-120, Accuway widens the BT40 line in Y as well as X. Travels are 1,200 mm (47.2 in), 650 mm (25.6 in) and 600 mm (23.6 in), and the table matches the X and Y strokes exactly at 1,200 x 650 mm (47.2 x 25.6 in). A table no larger than the travel means the cutter can reach every corner of it.

It carries 1,300 kg (2,866 lb), the highest table load among the 7,500 kg (16,534 lb) frames. Z is longer than on the UM-110 and the spindle nose range is 125~725 mm (4.9~28.5 in), starting closer to the table than the 150 mm minimum of the UM-110. Short tools reach thin plates without a riser.

The spindle is the BT40 unit of the series: 10,000 rpm with 12,000 rpm in brackets, Belt (Direct), and 7.5/11 kW (10.1/14.8 hp) with 15/18.5 kW (20.1/24.8 hp) bracketed. All axes rapid at 30 m/min (1,181 in/min) on ball-bearing guideways, roller type guide way being an option.

The coolant pump row differs from the smaller machines. It reads 0.75+1.27 kW with 1.01+1.73 kW in brackets under a 50Hz/60Hz heading. A 4-bar coolant system is standard and 20 bar through-spindle coolant is optional. Anyone who needs box ways instead should look at the UM-120B, which trades rapid rate for them.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 650 mm (25.6 in) of Y travel with a table of the same width
  • 1,300 kg (2,866 lb) maximum weight on the table
  • Spindle nose comes down to 125 mm from the table, with 725 mm (28.5 in) at the top of the range
  • Z travel of 600 mm (23.6 in), longer than the UM-110's 550 mm (21.7 in)

Limitations

  • Rapid traverse of 30 m/min (1,181 in/min) with ball-type guideways as listed
  • Standard motor is 7.5/11 kW (10.1/14.8 hp); the larger rating is bracketed
  • Magazine holds 24 tools unless a bracketed capacity is ordered
  • A table equal to the travels leaves no overhang for clamps outside the cutting area

Best For

Plates and mould bases up to 1,200 x 650 mm Heavier fixtures within a 1,300 kg table load Thin workpieces that need the spindle nose close to the table General-purpose BT40 work on a FANUC 0i-M control

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the axis travels of the Accuway UM-120?

X is 1,200 mm (47.2 in), Y is 650 mm (25.6 in) and Z is 600 mm (23.6 in). The distance from spindle nose to table is 125~725 mm (4.9~28.5 in), and the table is 1,200 x 650 mm (47.2 x 25.6 in).

02 How does the UM-120 differ from the UM-120B?

The UM-120B lists Box as its guideway type and rapids of 24 m/min (945 in/min), with a 1,300 x 650 mm (51.2 x 25.6 in) table rated at 1,200 kg (2,646 lb). The UM-120 lists Ball guideway bearings, 30 m/min (1,181 in/min) and 1,300 kg (2,866 lb). Travels are the same on both.

03 How much power does the UM-120 spindle have?

The row reads 7.5/11 kW (10.1/14.8 hp), continuous and 30 min, followed by 15/18.5 kW (20.1/24.8 hp) in brackets. Speed is 10,000 rpm with 12,000 rpm in brackets. Accuway does not say on the page which pairing is standard, so confirm it in the quotation.

04 Does the UM-120 support a 4th axis?

Yes, as options. The list includes a 4th axis interface with FANUC motor and driver, and a 4th axis rotary table. Other options are a workpiece touch probe, a contact tool setter, a Heidenhain linear scale and an auto door.
