Overview

Z travel is what separates the FANUC Robodrill α-D14SiB5ADV Plus from the other 14-tool compact models: 400 mm (15.7 in), where the Robodrill α-D14SiB5 has 330 mm (13 in). X stays at 300 mm (11.8 in), Y at 300 mm (11.8 in) + 100 mm extension, and the table at 500 x 300 mm (19.7 x 11.8 in) with a 100 kg (220 lb) load.

The longer stroke is worth having for one reason above all. This model runs the Series 31i-B5 Plus, a 5-axis capable control, and a tilting rotary table raises the part well above the machine table. Add a fixture and a drill long enough to reach the bottom of a bore, and a short Z runs out. The added height gives that stack room to clear.

Weight capacity is unchanged by the longer Z stroke. The table is still rated 100 kg (220 lb), and a rotary unit comes out of that figure first, so this is a machine for tall, light setups, not heavy blocks. Tool capacity is 14 tools. The standard spindle reaches 10,000 rpm, and FANUC lists 12,000 rpm tapping / high-acceleration and 24,000 rpm high-speed spindles as options.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 400 mm (15.7 in) of Z travel, against 330 mm (13 in) on the Robodrill α-D14SiB5
  • Series 31i-B5 Plus control, listed as 5-axis capable
  • Three spindle choices: 10,000 rpm standard, or 12,000 rpm tapping / high-acceleration and 24,000 rpm high-speed as options

Limitations

  • Table load stays at 100 kg (220 lb) despite the taller Z
  • X travel is 300 mm (11.8 in), so long parts do not fit however much Z is available
  • Holds 14 tools, which can limit multi-face programs meant to run in one setup
06

Best For

Tall fixtures or rotary setups that need 400 mm (15.7 in) of Z Deep-hole drilling with long tools on small parts Light multi-face work under the 5-axis capable Series 31i-B5 Plus

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How is the α-D14SiB5ADV Plus different from the α-D14SiB5 Plus?

FANUC's table differs in one row: Z travel. The Robodrill α-D14SiB5ADV has 400 mm (15.7 in) and the Robodrill α-D14SiB5 has 330 mm (13 in). Both list 300 mm (11.8 in) of X, a 500 x 300 mm (19.7 x 11.8 in) table, 100 kg (220 lb) of table load, 14 tools and the Series 31i-B5 Plus control.

02 Why does a 5-axis setup need more Z travel?

A rotary or tilting table sits on top of the machine table and lifts the part. The fixture and the tool length stack above that. With 400 mm (15.7 in) of Z there is more room for that stack before the spindle runs out of travel, which is why the taller version pairs well with a 5-axis capable control.

03 How much weight can the table carry?

100 kg (220 lb), the same as the shorter-Z models. A rotary unit, its fixture and the part all count toward it, so weigh the complete setup before deciding the machine fits the job.
