Overview

Fast live tools on a short, stiff lathe: the Accuway UL-15M runs rotary tools at 6,000 rpm from a 3.7/5.5 kW (5.0/7.4 hp) motor, in a 12-station BMT/VDI turret with servo mechanical drive.

The 6,000 rpm figure separates it from Accuway's bigger live-tool lathes, such as the UT-300M at 4,000 rpm. Small drills and end mills cut properly at that speed, which suits the part size: the UL-15M turns up to 180 mm (7.1 in) in diameter and 210 mm (8.3 in) in length.

Both figures are well under the plain UL-15, which turns 280 mm (11.0 in) by 300 mm (11.8 in). The driven turret is bulkier and its tools stand further out, and on a 350 mm (13.8 in) Z travel there is little room to spare. Anyone moving up from the two-axis machine should lay the longest live tool and the chuck jaws out on paper first.

The spindle keeps the full 11/15 kW (14.8/20.1 hp), with the same three columns: 6 in chuck at 6,000 rpm, or 8 in at 4,500 rpm and 4,000 rpm, the last with a 65 mm (2.6 in) bar capacity.
