Overview

The AZ-600A is AccuteX's mid-size moving-table wire EDM: 600 mm (23.6 in) of X travel, 400 mm (15.7 in) of Y and a 300 mm (11.8 in) Z stroke, for workpieces up to 980 x 775 x 295 mm (38.6 x 30.5 x 11.6 in) and 550 kg (1,213 lb). U and V travel 160 x 160 mm (6.3 x 6.3 in), which gives the listed maximum cutting taper of ±32° / H100 mm.

Most of what AccuteX writes about this model concerns the controller. It is a Windows control on a 64-bit Industrial PC with a 21.5" Color TFT Touch Screen, and the page lists five functions by name. A motor torque monitoring routine measures torque over the full stroke at one key press before cutting, to confirm the path is free of interference. Built-in CAD/CAM loads a drawing file and runs a third-party post-processor on the machine. Drawing speed is said to be up by 300%, with 2D and 3D views. Automatic alignment covers plate width, outer circle, inner square hole and four-sided centre, and a processing history library records speed and gap voltage along the whole path.

AccuteX gives one accuracy figure for that alignment: with the new edge-seeking function, mould calibration accuracy is up to 3µm. That is a statement about finding the part, not about the cut itself.

Mechanically the series has what AccuteX calls a "Direct Force" design, with the X and Y linear guideway blocks kept in a straight line and the working table supported by casting bases. The maker says it suits precision mould cutting within small and medium strokes. Compared with the AP-6040A, which shares the 600 mm (23.6 in) by 400 mm (15.7 in) travel, this machine weighs 4,400 kg (9,700 lb) instead of 5,100 kg (11,243 lb) and carries 550 kg (1,213 lb) instead of 1,000 kg (2,205 lb).

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Controller functions named on the page: motor torque monitoring, built-in CAD/CAM, automatic alignment and a processing history library
  • Edge-seeking alignment with a stated mould calibration accuracy of up to 3µm
  • 600 mm (23.6 in) by 400 mm (15.7 in) of travel with 160 x 160 mm (6.3 x 6.3 in) on U and V and ±32° / H100 mm taper
  • Full closed loop servo control with linear scale is listed in the controller table
  • Series design includes a 3-sided automatic sliding door for robotic loading from any side

Limitations

  • Carries 550 kg (1,213 lb), a little over half of the 1,000 kg (2,205 lb) the AP-6040A takes on the same travels
  • Z stroke is 300 mm (11.8 in), short of the 350 mm (13.8 in) of the AP-6040A
  • The page gives no standard and optional accessory lists, so the scope of AWT, chiller and power modules has to come from the quotation
  • Footprint of 2,600 x 2,700 x 2,335 mm (102.4 x 106.3 x 91.9 in) is wider than the AP-6040A at 2,320 mm

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the main specifications of the AccuteX AZ-600A?

Travels are 600 mm (23.6 in) in X, 400 mm (15.7 in) in Y and 300 mm (11.8 in) in Z, with 160 x 160 mm (6.3 x 6.3 in) on U and V. The maximum workpiece is 980 x 775 x 295 mm (38.6 x 30.5 x 11.6 in) at 550 kg (1,213 lb). The machine weighs 4,400 kg (9,700 lb) and the water system holds 830 L.

02 Does the AZ-600A have CAD/CAM on the control?

AccuteX says the new controller has specified third-party post-processing software built in, which supports loading CAD drawing files, and that the NC program can be generated on the machine after the standard post-process. Ask which CAD formats and which post are included with the machine you are quoted.

03 What does the motor torque monitoring system do on the AZ-600A?

According to AccuteX, one key press starts an automatic measurement of motor torque over the machine's full stroke. It is run once before cutting, and its purpose is to show that the programmed movement is free of interference before the job starts.

04 Should I choose the AZ-600A or the AZ-400A?

The AZ-400A covers 400 mm (15.7 in) by 300 mm (11.8 in) and takes 400 kg (882 lb) on a 3,500 kg (7,716 lb) machine. The AZ-600A is the next size up in both axes, takes 550 kg (1,213 lb) and weighs 4,400 kg (9,700 lb). U and V travel and taper capacity are the same on both.
