Overview

AccuteX builds the AZ-400A as the compact entry to its AZ series, which the maker describes as a smart manufacturing wire cut EDM with a moving table and 0.1μm resolution flat-type linear motors on the X and Y axes. Cutting travel is 400 mm (15.7 in) in X and 300 mm (11.8 in) in Y, and the table is rated for a 400 kg (882 lb) workpiece.

This is a lighter machine than its travel-for-travel counterpart in the AP series. It weighs 3,500 kg (7,716 lb); the AP-4030A weighs 5,000 kg (11,023 lb) and carries 800 kg (1,764 lb). Wire-side capacity is the same on both, though. The AZ-400A has 160 x 160 mm (6.3 x 6.3 in) of U and V travel, a maximum cutting taper of ±32° / H100 mm and room for a 16 kg (35 lb) wire spool.

Automation is what the series is laid out for. AccuteX describes a 3-sided automatic sliding door so that a robot can load from any side, an M2M protocol for working with robots and other machines, and machine status tracking over OPC UA. The series text also mentions an automatic final core removal function. None of these come with a standard-or-optional list on this model's page, so have each one confirmed in writing.

The wire threader is the new-generation AWT, which AccuteX says suits wire diameters from 0.1mm to 0.3mm, and the series text adds a fine-wire option for 0.07–0.1mm on this size. One caution on the vertical axis: the maker's own documents disagree on the Z stroke and the workpiece height of the AZ-400A, so neither figure is given here. Ask AccuteX for the current values before planning tall work.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Flat-type linear motors with 0.1μm resolution on X and Y, as AccuteX describes the AZ series
  • 160 x 160 mm (6.3 x 6.3 in) of U and V travel and a maximum cutting taper of ±32° / H100 mm on a 400 mm (15.7 in) class machine
  • At 3,500 kg (7,716 lb) it is far lighter than the AP-4030A at 5,000 kg (11,023 lb), which eases floor loading
  • Series design includes a 3-sided automatic sliding door for robot loading from any side
  • New-generation AWT is described as suitable for wire diameters from 0.1mm to 0.3mm

Limitations

  • Workpiece weight is limited to 400 kg (882 lb), half of what the AP-4030A carries at 800 kg (1,764 lb)
  • AccuteX's page and catalogue give different Z-stroke and workpiece-height figures for this model, so both need confirming
  • The page has no standard and optional accessory lists, so the delivered scope of AWT, chiller and automation items is not documented there
  • The water system holds 730 L, more than the 660 L of the AP-4030A, on a footprint of 2,250 x 2,600 x 2,280 mm (88.6 x 102.4 x 89.8 in)
06

Best For

Small precision mould inserts and punches within 400 mm (15.7 in) by 300 mm (11.8 in) Robot-loaded cells that use the 3-sided automatic door Taper work up to ±32° / H100 mm on light workpieces Shops that want linear-motor drives without the mass of the AP series

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What size of work does the AccuteX AZ-400A handle?

Cutting travel is 400 mm (15.7 in) in X and 300 mm (11.8 in) in Y, with 160 x 160 mm (6.3 x 6.3 in) on U and V, and the workpiece can weigh up to 400 kg (882 lb). AccuteX's documents are not consistent on the Z stroke and workpiece height of this model, so confirm those with the maker.

02 How is the AZ-400A different from the AP-4030A?

Both cover 400 mm (15.7 in) by 300 mm (11.8 in) with 160 x 160 mm (6.3 x 6.3 in) of U and V travel. The AZ-400A is the lighter moving-table machine at 3,500 kg (7,716 lb) and takes 400 kg (882 lb). The AP-4030A is a 5,000 kg (11,023 lb) compound-table machine that takes 800 kg (1,764 lb).

03 What control and drives does the AZ-400A have?

The controller table lists Windows on a 64-bit Industrial PC with a 21.5" Color TFT Touch Screen, full closed loop servo control with linear scale, and 5 Axes / 6 Axes (Opt. W Axis). AccuteX describes the AZ series as using flat-type linear motors with 0.1μm resolution on X and Y.

04 Is the AZ-400A suited to unattended running?

That is what AccuteX positions the series for. It describes a new-generation AWT for wire diameters from 0.1mm to 0.3mm, an automatic final core removal function, a 3-sided automatic sliding door for robot loading and an M2M protocol for linking robots and other machines. Check which of these are in the quoted configuration.
