Overview

The CHMER GLX432 is a 400 x 300 x 250 mm (15.7 x 11.8 x 9.8 in) wire EDM with linear motor X and Y axes, and its catalogue is specific about what changed in this generation: U and V travel has been increased from 60 mm to 100 mm. With that comes a taper rating of ± 21°/110 using the wide angle nozzle.

The wider U and V axes matter more than the number suggests. On a machine of this travel, 100 x 100 mm (3.9 x 3.9 in) is what allows a full-angle taper to be held through a tall section, the kind of work CHMER refers to when it speaks of flexibility for complex workpieces.

Several features are about keeping the machine running without attention. The 6th Gen AWT threads under water and after a wire break. The water shield cleans itself with a continuous flush, which CHMER says keeps friction down and positioning accurate. A visual flow meter gives separate control of water pressure and flow rate. The operator works at a 24-inch monitor with a standard keyboard and mouse.

In figures: 450 kg (992 lb) maximum workpiece weight, 725 x 600 x 245 mm maximum workpiece size, 1,800 mm/min (70.9 ipm) feed, 650 L (172 gal) of dielectric and 8 kVA maximum power consumption. Machine dimensions are 2,300 x 2,350 x 2,350 mm and net weight is 3,000 kg (6,614 lb).
