Seibu MM50UP — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Seibu MM50UP that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Seibu or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Seibu MM50UP is the mid-size ultra-precision wire EDM in Seibu's water-specification range, with an axis travel range of 500 × 400 × 310 mm (19.7 × 15.7 × 12.2 in).

Look at the workpiece figure next to the travel. The machine takes a block up to 850 × 730 × 300 mm (33.5 × 28.7 × 11.8 in) and 800 kg (1,764 lb), far larger in plan than the stroke. A plate that size can be loaded, cut in one region and then repositioned for the next. For a shop that sees the occasional oversize die plate, that margin is worth more than a longer stroke it would rarely use.

Vertical capacity matches the larger MM75UP: both list 310 mm (12.2 in) on the third axis and a ±10° taper at a 300 mm (11.8 in) work thickness. What the MM75UP adds is 750 × 500 mm of travel in plan and a 1,000 kg (2,205 lb) load, at a machine weight of 5,600 kg (12,346 lb). The MM50UP weighs 3,300 kg (7,275 lb).

Fine wire is where the UP designation shows in the table. The range is Φ0.05 to Φ0.3 mm with Φ0.2 mm standard; the M50HP on the same frame starts at Φ0.07 mm. U-V travel is ±60 × ±60 mm (±2.4 × ±2.4 in), and a ±45° taper at 40 mm (1.6 in) can be added as an option.

Control is Smart NC, with the MPSC-20 power supply and the MF50-01 filtration device. Overall the machine measures 1,915 × 2,260 × 2,035 mm (75.4 × 89.0 × 80.1 in).

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Workpiece capacity of 850 × 730 × 300 mm (33.5 × 28.7 × 11.8 in) on a 500 × 400 mm stroke
  • 310 mm (12.2 in) third-axis travel, the same as the larger MM75UP
  • Runs wire down to Φ0.05 mm
  • 800 kg (1,764 lb) workpiece weight on a 3,300 kg (7,275 lb) machine
  • U-V travel of ±60 × ±60 mm (±2.4 × ±2.4 in) with ±10° taper at 300 mm (11.8 in)

Limitations

  • A workpiece at the 850 × 730 mm limit is larger than the 500 × 400 mm travel, so it must be repositioned to reach all of it
  • ±45° taper cutting at 40 mm (1.6 in) is an option, not part of the standard machine
  • No automatic wire feeding device is named in this model's table
  • Load limit of 800 kg (1,764 lb) is below the 1,000 kg (2,205 lb) of the MM75UP

Best For

Precision die components within a 500 × 400 mm stroke Tall workpieces up to 300 mm (11.8 in) Fine-detail work with wire down to Φ0.05 mm Occasional oversize plates up to 850 × 730 mm cut in sections

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the travels of the MM50UP?

Seibu lists the axis travel range as 500 × 400 × 310 mm (19.7 × 15.7 × 12.2 in) and the U-V axis travel as ±60 × ±60 mm (±2.4 × ±2.4 in). The product page heads the model as an ultra-precision machine of the 500×400 size.

02 Can the MM50UP hold a workpiece bigger than its travel?

Yes. The maximum workpiece is 850 × 730 × 300 mm (33.5 × 28.7 × 11.8 in) at up to 800 kg (1,764 lb), while the stroke in plan is 500 × 400 mm. Only the part of the workpiece inside the stroke can be cut in one setup, so plan the datum and repositioning for larger plates.

03 How does the MM50UP differ from the M50HP?

The tables on Seibu's page are the same apart from the wire range. The MM50UP is listed for Φ0.05 to Φ0.3 mm and the M50HP for Φ0.07 to Φ0.3 mm. Seibu calls the MM50UP an ultra-precision machine and the M50HP a precision machine.

04 What does the MM50UP weigh and how large is it?

The machine weighs 3,300 kg (7,275 lb) and measures 1,915 × 2,260 × 2,035 mm (75.4 × 89.0 × 80.1 in). That is well under the 5,600 kg (12,346 lb) of the MM75UP, which matters where floor capacity or crane access is limited.
