Overview
With 600 mm (23.6 in) of X travel, 400 mm (15.7 in) of Y and a 350 mm (13.8 in) Z stroke, the AccuteX AP-6040A is the larger machine in the AP series of linear-motor wire EDMs. It accepts a workpiece of 980 x 775 x 345 mm (38.6 x 30.5 x 13.6 in) weighing up to 1,000 kg (2,205 lb), and AccuteX gives 350 mm (13.8 in) as the maximum height it will cut.
The structure is the part AccuteX explains in most detail. The casting is a compound table design in which the column moves in Y, so the centre of gravity stays between the 2 linear guideways of the X axis table and the two axes do not stack their errors. AccuteX states that "the Bi-repeatability is less than 2.5μm" after 5 laser calibrations. Drive is by the XY Axes Linear Motor System with a 0.1μm Resolution Linear Scale, both standard; a 0.05μm Resolution Linear Scale is on the options list.
How much bigger is it than the AP-4030A? The travels grow by half in X and a third in Y, yet the machine weight barely moves: 5,100 kg (11,243 lb) here against 5,000 kg (11,023 lb) for the AP-4030A. The water system is where the size shows, at 980 L. U and V travel stays at 160 x 160 mm (6.3 x 6.3 in) and the maximum cutting taper at ±32° / H100 mm.
Several things a buyer may assume are included are not. Auto Wire Threading (AWT), the water chiller, the MST II Power Module, the Rotary Table Package (W axis) and the Probing Measuring System are optional accessories. So is the 0.05mm~0.1mm Fine Wire Application; AccuteX says 0.07mm wire threads successfully 90% of the time under 30mm of Z axis height.

Yes. The XY Axes Linear Motor System is in the standard accessory list together with a 0.1μm Resolution Linear Scale, and the controller table gives the servo control method as full closed loop with linear scale. A 0.05μm Resolution Linear Scale is offered as an option.

The Rotary Table Package (W axis) is an optional accessory. With it the control handles 6 axes with 5 simultaneous; without it the machine is a 5-axis control with 4 simultaneous axes, which covers X, Y, U and V taper cutting plus Z positioning.
