Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Zimmermann FZP27 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
Length is what defines the Zimmermann FZP27. Its X axis can be specified anywhere from 3,000 to 20,000 mm (118 to 787 in), on a Y of 2,500, 3,000 or 3,500 mm and a Z of 1,500, 1,750 or 2,000 mm. That is why Zimmermann lists 1:1 models in automobile design, aircraft parts, boat hulls and parts for wagon construction as its range of applications. It is a top travelling gantry for large volume components, mainly in aluminum or ureol.
The clamping table follows the travels: 3,000 to 20,000 mm long and 250 mm (10 in) high, with 18H12 T-slots running lengthwise at a 200 mm (8 in) pitch. Load capacity is 3,000 kg/m² with a maximum of 20 t. On a long machine that ceiling matters more than the area figure, because a long table reaches the total limit well before every part of it carries its rated load.
Four heads are offered: S2, C2, C3 and VH10. The data sheet shows the machine with the C3, whose spindle is rated 20 kW at S1 and 26 kW at S6 and delivers 32 Nm at S1 and 41 Nm at S6 through an HSK-F63 tool holder. Top speed is printed as 26,000 U/min, the sheet's notation for revolutions per minute, and constant power runs from 6,000 U/min upward. Next to the 15 kW head of the FZP22, this is a spindle with enough torque for real aluminum roughing.
Feed rates are up to 60 m/min in X and Y and up to 40 m/min in Z. Accuracy is given as in accordance to VDI/DGQ 3441 or ISO 230-2 rather than as micron values; buyers who need stated positioning and volumetric figures will find them on the FZP32 and the larger machines. As a P-line machine, the bed is recessed into the foundation for ground-level access and automatic loading.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- X travel configurable from 3,000 to 20,000 mm (118 to 787 in) for 1:1 models, aircraft parts and boat hulls
- Table load of 3,000 kg/m², up to a maximum of 20 t
- Choice of four milling heads: S2, C2, C3 and VH10
- C3 head spindle with 20 kW at S1, 26 kW at S6 and constant power from 6,000 U/min
- Z travel of up to 2,000 mm (78 in) for tall models and deep molds
Limitations
- No positioning or volumetric accuracy figures: the table cites VDI/DGQ 3441 or ISO 230-2 only
- Y travel tops out at 3,500 mm (138 in); wider parts need the FZP37, whose Y reaches 6,000 mm
- Z-axis feed rate is up to 40 m/min against up to 60 m/min in X and Y
- Tool changer, chip conveyor and mist/dust extraction are optional equipment on the data sheet
- The HSK-F63 tool holder and 41 Nm of S6 torque limit the C3 spindle to light and medium cuts

Frequently Asked Questions
01
X travel and table length are both listed as 3,000 – 20,000 mm (118 – 787 in). The required space without peripherals grows with it, from 5,380 to 22,380 mm in length, 5,450 to 6,460 mm in width and 4,360 to 6,260 mm in height. Other dimensions are available on request, according to the data sheet.
02
Up to 3,000 kg/m², with a maximum of 20 t for the table as a whole. The table is 250 mm (10 in) high and has 18H12 T-slots in the longitudinal direction at a pitch of 200 mm (8 in). Zimmermann says the clamping table is available in various sizes to suit different work areas.
03
Zimmermann lists four: the S2, the C2, the C3 and the VH10, which it describes as a slim head with minimal interference contours. The data sheet shows the C3, with an A-axis swivelling range of ±96° or ±120°, a C-axis range of ±270° and 193 mm from the swivel axis to the spindle nose.
04
A 20 kW spindle in the C3 head: 20 kW at S1 and 26 kW at S6, 32 Nm at S1 and 41 Nm at S6, and a top speed the sheet gives as 26,000 U/min, with constant power from 6,000 U/min. The tool holder is HSK-F63 with spring clamping and pneumatic unclamping. Other spindle options are on request.
05
The FZP27 table itself names no control. Zimmermann states for its portal milling machines in general that they are equipped with modern CNC controls, with Heidenhain TNC 7 and Siemens SINUMERIK ONE as the options, so the choice is made when the machine is configured.
