Overview

The You Ji VMC1350 is the only BT-50 machine in the VMC series. Its spindle is listed at 4,500 rpm, its travels are 1,350 x 700 x 700 mm (53.1 x 27.6 x 27.6 in), and its Y-axis rides on 4 rails where the smaller sizes do not mention that feature.

That combination says heavy milling. A 50-taper holder carries large face mills, long boring bars and big drills that a smaller taper cannot hold stiffly, and 4,500 rpm is a speed for steel and iron, not for small cutters in aluminium. You Ji lists a dual speed gearbox as an option for heavy cutting.

The 4-rail Y-axis is described by the maker as giving the best carrying capacity for the workpiece. Its purpose is to support the saddle under the full width of the 1,500 x 650 mm (59.1 x 25.6 in) table, so a heavy part pushed to one end does not tip the saddle over the edge of a two-way base. The catalogue does not print a table load figure, though, so ask for one if the parts are dense.

Spindle nose to table is 110-810 mm (4.3-31.9 in). The tool changer is the umbrella type; the arm-type option in You Ji's list is named for the VMC850 and VMC1100 only. The machine occupies 2,950 x 4,660 mm (116.1 x 183.5 in) and stands 3,300 mm (129.9 in) high.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • BT-50 spindle for large face mills and boring bars
  • Y-axis supported by 4 rails under a 1,500 x 650 mm (59.1 x 25.6 in) table
  • 700 mm (27.6 in) of Y and Z travel, against 600 mm (23.6 in) on the VMC1100
  • Box guide ways on all three axes; dual speed gearbox optional
  • Up to 810 mm (31.9 in) from spindle nose to table

Limitations

  • 4,500 rpm top speed is low for aluminium and small tools
  • The arm-type ATC option is listed for the VMC850 and VMC1100, not for this size
  • Table load, tool capacity and motor power are absent from the published table
  • 3,300 mm (129.9 in) height and 2,950 x 4,660 mm (116.1 x 183.5 in) of floor

Best For

Heavy face milling and boring in steel and cast iron Mould bases and die shoes up to 1,350 x 700 mm (53.1 x 27.6 in) Large plates and weldments that need 50-taper tooling

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What taper and speed does the VMC1350 spindle have?

BT-50 at 4,500 rpm. The VMC850 and VMC1100 in the same series are BT-40 at 8,000 rpm, so the VMC1350 is the size to choose for large-diameter cutters and heavy stock removal.

02 What does the 4-rail Y-axis do?

You Ji states that the Y-axis of the VMC1350 is supported by 4 rails to provide the best carrying capacity for the workpiece. In practice the extra ways hold the saddle and table level along the whole 1,350 mm (53.1 in) X stroke. No load figure is given in the table.

03 How large is the working envelope?

X 1,350 mm (53.1 in), Y 700 mm (27.6 in), Z 700 mm (27.6 in). The table is 1,500 x 650 mm (59.1 x 25.6 in) and the spindle nose sits 110-810 mm (4.3-31.9 in) above it.

04 Does the VMC1350 have linear-way versions?

Not in the catalogue. The VTM and VLM linear-way series are listed at 850 and 1,100 only. The VMC1350 is a box guide way machine on X, Y and Z.
