Overview

The YCM NTV158A puts a 40-taper, 12,000 rpm spindle on a T-base machine with a 2,000 kg (4,409 lb) table. Travels are 1,530 mm (60.24 in) in X, 762 mm (30.00 in) in Y and 700 mm (27.56 in) in Z, over a table of 1,650 x 760 mm (64.96 x 29.92 in).

YCM's older T-base machines, the TV series, slide on square ways and rapid far more slowly. The NTV keeps the overhang-free table support and replaces the ways with roller type linear guideways on all axes: six blocks on X, three guideways on Y. The result is 30 m/min in X and Y and 24 m/min in Z. YCM also points out that the T-shaped base reduces the footprint.

The head has no counterweight, which lowers the moving inertia and lets the Z axis follow fast feed changes without vibration. The IDD spindle is rated 22 kW (30 HP), with cooling for the motor seat and spindle and oil-air lubrication for long running at speed. A 15,000 rpm version is the option.

A large, heavily loaded table with a fast 40-taper spindle fits big aluminium parts and large molds finished with small tools. The magazine holds 24 tools, with 30 or 40 optional, each up to 6 kg (13.2 lb). Dual screw-type chip augers clear the work area, and the machine weighs 14,170 kg (31,239 lb). For 50-taper tooling on the same travels, YCM offers the NTV158B.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the difference between the NTV158A and the NTV158B?

The spindle. The NTV158A has a BBT40 spindle at 12,000 rpm and takes 6 kg (13.2 lb) tools. The NTV158B has a BBT50 spindle at 10,000 rpm, 20 kg (44.1 lb) tools, a dual-driven Z axis and weighs 15,500 kg (34,171 lb) against 14,170 kg (31,239 lb).

02 What are the travels and table size of the NTV158A?

X is 1,530 mm (60.24 in), Y is 762 mm (30.00 in) and Z is 700 mm (27.56 in). The table is 1,650 x 760 mm (64.96 x 29.92 in), with T-slots listed as 5 x 22 x 150 mm, and takes 2,000 kg (4,409 lb).

03 How fast are the axes?

Rapid traverse is listed as 30/30/24 m/min for X, Y and Z, and cutting feed as 1~10,000 mm/min. All axes run on roller type linear guideways with preloaded ball screws driven directly by the servo motors.

04 How is the spindle kept cool?

YCM lists a cooling system for the spindle motor seat and the spindle, giving real time control of spindle temperature, and an oil-air lubrication system for long-term high-speed operation. The spindle is YCM's direct-drive IDD design.
