Overview

The YCM NDC2016B is the smallest machine in the NDC double-column series: 2,200 mm (86.61 in) of X travel, 1,600 mm (62.99 in) of Y and 1,800 mm (70.87 in) between the columns, with a BBT50 spindle. The table is 2,000 x 1,500 mm (78.74 x 59.06 in) and carries 8,000 kg (17,637 lb).

YCM mixes guideway types by axis. X and Y run on roller type linear guideways for low friction and speed; Z, the axis that takes the cutting thrust, is a boxway for damping. The base is ribbed in an A pattern with multiple support points and holds the table over its whole stroke, and each column is a single casting.

The speed row reads GB: 6,000 (IDD: 10,000), that is, a 6,000 rpm gearbox spindle as standard and a 10,000 rpm direct-drive spindle as the alternative. Power is 35 kW (46.9 hp), or 45 kW (60.3 hp) as an option. The choice is the familiar one between low-speed torque for steel and speed for finishing and aluminium.

Z travel is 762 mm (30 in), or 1,016 mm (40 in) as an option, and the column can be raised by 250 mm; the spindle nose to table row lists the resulting ranges for each combination. Rapids are 20 m/min in X and Y and 15 m/min in Z. The magazine holds 32 tools, with 40, 60 or 120 optional, each up to 20 kg (44.1 lb). Dual chip augers with a conveyor clear the table sides. The machine weighs 22,000 kg (48,501 lb).

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the travels of the NDC2016B?

X travel is 2,200 mm (86.61 in) and Y travel is 1,600 mm (62.99 in). Z travel is 762 mm (30 in) as standard and 1,016 mm (40 in) as an option. The distance between columns is 1,800 mm (70.87 in).

02 What do GB and IDD mean in the spindle speed row?

The row reads GB: 6,000 (IDD: 10,000) rpm. GB is the gearbox spindle at 6,000 rpm and IDD is YCM's direct-drive spindle at 10,000 rpm. Spindle power is 35 kW (46.9 hp), with 45 kW (60.3 hp) optional, on a BBT50 taper.

03 How is the machine built?

It has an A-ribbed base with multiple supporting points, a table fully supported by the base, one piece columns and a wide span saddle. X and Y use roller type linear guideways, and Z is a high damping boxway.

04 What is the next size up?

The NDC3016B, with 3,200 mm (125.98 in) of X travel, a 3,000 x 1,500 mm (118.11 x 59.06 in) table rated for 10,000 kg (22,046 lb) and a weight of 26,000 kg (57,320 lb). Y travel and column spacing are the same.
