How much does the TRAK TMC5 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the TRAK TMC5 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The TRAK TMC5 is the smallest of five TMC toolroom machining centers: a 40 Taper vertical with 20 x 16 x 20 in (508 x 406 x 508 mm) of travel, a 27.56 x 15.75 in (700 x 400 mm) table and a 16-tool carousel changer, run by the ProtoTRAK RMX CNC.
Small refers to the envelope, not the spindle. The TMC5 has the 15 hp (11.2 kW) peak / 10 hp (7.5 kW) continuous rating that the TMC7 and TMC10 also carry, the same 50 - 8,000 rpm standard speed range and the same 12,000 rpm option. Holders are CAT 40 or BT 40, clamped with 1,500 lbs (680 kg) of force at 90 psi.
What it gives up is room and load. Table load is 880 lbs (399 kg), where the TMC7 carries 1,320 lbs (599 kg). Y travel is 16 in (406 mm), barely more than the 15.75 in table depth, and the 27.56 in table is longer than the 20 in of X the spindle can cover, so the table ends are for clamping, not cutting. Spindle nose to table runs from 3.5 in (89 mm) to 23.50 in (597 mm); a vise, a part and a long drill use that up quickly.
Rapids are given by operating mode: 400 ipm (10.2 m/min) in Toolroom Ops and 1,000 ipm (25.4 m/min) in Production Ops. The changer takes tools up to 3.14 in (80 mm) in diameter and 15 lbs (7 kg) including the holder, with a listed change time of .8 sec from station to station.
For the floor plan, TRAK gives a footprint of 92 x 129.25 in (2,337 x 3,283 mm) with coolant tank, auger and pendant rotated, a height of 90 in (2,286 mm) minimum and 106.5 in (2,705 mm) with the head fully up, and a net weight of 7,260 lbs (3,293 kg). Supply is 208V three-phase at 52.4 A for the standard spindle, with a 480V transformer optional.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Carries the 15 hp (11.2 kW) peak / 10 hp (7.5 kW) continuous 40 Taper spindle of the TMC7 and TMC10 in a smaller machine
- 16-tool carousel changer with a listed .8 sec station-to-station time
- 1,000 ipm (25.4 m/min) rapids in Production Ops
- Accepts CAT 40 or BT 40 holders, with 1,500 lbs (680 kg) of clamping force at 90 psi
- Lightest TMC at 7,260 lbs net (3,293 kg), on a 92 x 129.25 in (2,337 x 3,283 mm) footprint
- 56 gal (212 L) coolant tank
Limitations
- Table load is 880 lbs (399 kg); the TMC7 carries 1,320 lbs (599 kg)
- Y travel is 16 in (406 mm), where the TMC7 has 20 in (508 mm)
- 12,000 rpm is optional; the standard spindle stops at 8,000 rpm
- Tools are limited to 3.14 in (80 mm) in diameter and 15 lbs (7 kg) including the holder
- Standard supply is 208V; a 480V shop needs the optional transformer

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Travels are 20 in (508 mm) in X, 16 in (406 mm) in Y and 20 in (508 mm) in Z. The table is 27.56 x 15.75 in (700 x 400 mm) and takes up to 880 lbs (399 kg). The distance from spindle nose to table is 3.5 in (89 mm) minimum and 23.50 in (597 mm) maximum.
02
Not compared with the next two sizes. The TMC5, TMC7 and TMC10 all list 15 hp (11.2 kW) peak / 10 hp (7.5 kW) continuous with 50 - 8,000 rpm standard and 12,000 rpm optional. The TMC12 and TMC14 step up to 22.5 hp (16.8 kW) peak / 15 hp (11.2 kW) continuous.
03
The carousel holds 16 tools on CAT 40 or BT 40 holders. Each tool can be up to 3.14 in (80 mm) in diameter and 15 lbs (7 kg) including the holder. TRAK lists the tool change time as .8 sec from station to station.
04
The table gives two figures. In Toolroom Ops the rapid rate is 400 ipm (10.2 m/min), and in Production Ops it is 1,000 ipm (25.4 m/min). Which one applies depends on the mode the ProtoTRAK RMX CNC is running in.
05
208V three-phase (200-240V is acceptable) at 52.4 A with the standard spindle, or a 480V supply through the optional transformer. Air is listed as 2.5 CFM, 18 SCFM at 90 psi. The footprint is 92 x 129.25 in (2,337 x 3,283 mm) with coolant tank, auger and pendant rotated, and the machine reaches 106.5 in (2,705 mm) with the head fully up.
