Takamaz XT-6M

The Takamaz XT-6M is the live-tool version of the XT-6: a small chucking lathe with a 6 in collet, a 12-station turret carrying 6 driven tools at 4,000 rpm, and a spindle that runs to 4,500 rpm (6,000 rpm optional) with a 7.5 / 5.5 kW rating. Strokes are 120 mm (4.7 in) on X and 265 mm (10.4 in) on Z.

The driven tools are the reason to buy it. A small turned part often needs one cross-hole, a tapped hole on the face or a small flat, and without live tooling that feature means a second machine, a second fixture and a second handling. The XT-6M's live tools are rated to drill Ø10 mm and tap M6, which covers that class of secondary feature on a part this size. Larger holes and heavier threads are beyond them, and the table lists no Y axis, so holes and flats have to be machined on the part's centre line rather than milled off-centre.

Half of the 12 stations are driven, so a job still has 6 static positions for turning and boring tools. Workpieces for automatic loading are listed up to 60 mm in diameter, 50 mm long and 1.0 kg, and the machine fits in 1,360 × 1,370 mm (W × L) of floor. Rapid traverse is 18 m/min on X and 24 m/min on Z.

Against the XT-6 on the same base, the XT-6M gives up a little Z travel, 265 mm (10.4 in) against 280 mm (11 in), and has a shorter option list, with only the 6,000 rpm spindle listed. In exchange it has the 12-station turret and the 6 live tools as its listed configuration. If parts need off-centre milling, the XT-8MY with its +35/-40 mm Y axis is the larger step.
