Overview
The Takamaz XWT-10 is a twin-spindle, twin-turret CNC lathe in the 10-inch chuck class, representing the largest platform in Takamaz's automated twin-spindle lineup. With dual 10-station turrets and 18.5/15 kW spindles on both sides, the XWT-10 handles medium-sized parts up to 200 mm in diameter with the same automated both-end machining philosophy that defines Takamaz's smaller machines. The step up to 10-station turrets from the XW-200's 8-station configuration provides additional tool capacity for more complex part geometries.
Both spindles deliver 18.5/15 kW at up to 2,800 RPM (4,000 RPM optional) through 120 mm bores, providing substantial torque for roughing steel, cast iron, and stainless steel at larger diameters. The optional 4,000 RPM upgrade significantly expands the machine's effective speed range for smaller-diameter features and aluminum work. Each spindle's 10-station turret operates independently with 170 mm X-travel and 270 mm Z-travel, providing more Z-stroke than the XW-200 for longer parts.
The twin-spindle architecture with automatic part transfer between spindles enables complete both-end machining of larger workpieces. The loader specification references workpiece dimensions of approximately 200 mm diameter and 220 mm length, confirming the XWT-10's medium-part production focus. Rapid traverse rates of 24 m/min on both X and Z axes keep both turrets moving efficiently.
The Fanuc 0i-TF control manages multi-channel programming for synchronized or independent turret operation. The 2,030 x 2,370 mm footprint (2,350 x 2,370 mm with loader) is compact for a 10-inch twin-spindle twin-turret machine. The XWT-10 fills the gap between Takamaz's 8-inch class machines and the large-frame lathes offered by Mazak and Okuma, providing production automation for parts that outgrow the 8-inch platform.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 10-inch twin-spindle twin-turret platform handles medium-sized parts that 8-inch machines cannot accommodate
- 10-station turrets on both sides provide more tool capacity than the XW-200 for complex part geometries
- 18.5/15 kW spindles on both sides deliver serious torque for aggressive roughing on steel and cast iron
- Optional 4,000 RPM spindle upgrade significantly expands speed range for aluminum and small-diameter features
- 270 mm Z-travel per turret handles longer parts than the XW-200 with 220 mm Z-travel
- 24 m/min rapid traverse on all axes keeps both turrets moving efficiently between operations
Limitations
- Standard 2,800 RPM spindle speed limits surface speed on small-diameter features without the 4,000 RPM upgrade
- Highest cost in the Takamaz lineup requires significant production volume and part value for ROI
- No live tooling on standard configuration requires secondary operations for cross-drilling and milling
- Limited Takamaz service infrastructure outside Japan compared to Mazak, Okuma, or DMG Mori

Frequently Asked Questions
01
New Takamaz XWT-10 machines typically price between $280,000 and $400,000 depending on spindle speed option, tooling, and loader configuration. The 4,000 RPM spindle upgrade adds approximately $15,000-$25,000 but significantly expands the machine speed range.
02
The XWT-10 upgrades to 10-station turrets (vs 8-station), extends Z-travel to 270 mm (vs 220 mm), and offers an optional 4,000 RPM spindle upgrade. These improvements provide more tool capacity and longer part capability at a higher price point.
03
If your part mix includes smaller-diameter features or aluminum components, the 4,000 RPM option is strongly recommended. The standard 2,800 RPM limits surface speed on features below 100 mm diameter, particularly on aluminum where higher speeds are needed for good finish.
04
The Mazak QT series offers more flexibility with C-axis, Y-axis, and live tooling options, plus a larger dealer network. The XWT-10 focuses on pure twin-spindle throughput with integrated gantry loading. For high-volume simple both-end parts, the XWT-10 typically cycles faster; for complex parts, the Mazak is more versatile.
