Overview

With 3,050 mm (120.1 in) of Z travel, 800 mm (31.5 in) of swing over the cross slide and 20,400 kg (44,880 lb) of mass, the Johnford ST-130CH is a three-metre lathe for parts that are heavy in every dimension.

A workpiece that uses this envelope can weigh several tonnes. The table gives no maximum workpiece weight for the ST series, so the load that the chuck, the centers and any steady rests may carry is a figure to obtain from Johnford for the actual job. What the table does give are the dimensions of the supports: a 200 mm (7.9 in) spindle bearing, an A2-15 nose, and a Ø200 mm (7.9 in) tailstock quill with MT#7 taper.

Steady rests are on the options list in manual and hydraulic self-centering versions.

The main motor is 30 / 37 kW (40.2 / 49.6 hp), or optionally 37 / 45 kW (49.6 / 60.3 hp), with four automatic speeds and 1,500 rpm at the top. The chuck is 510 mm (20.1 in), or 610 mm (24 in). Bore is 152 mm (6 in). Tailstock travel is 2,750 mm (108.3 in), X travel 420 mm (16.5 in), and the outside dimensions are 8,612 x 2,504 x 2,955 mm (339.1 x 98.6 x 116.3 in).
