Takamaz XTL-8MY

The Takamaz XTL-8MY is a long-bed chucking lathe with a Y axis: 550 mm (21.7 in) of Z, 175 mm (6.9 in) of X and Y travel of +35 / -40 mm, a 15 / 11 kW spindle to 4,000 rpm in an 8 in collet, and a 12-station turret with 12 live tools. It takes shafts and long parts that the short-bed XT-8 models cannot, and mills them in the same setup.

Length is the reason to choose it. The maximum turning length is 508 mm (20.0 in), and the optional loader handles parts up to 75 mm in diameter and 5 kg, with workpieces listed up to 500 mm long. That describes shafts, spindles, pins and long sleeves rather than flanges. On such parts the Y axis is what lets keyways, flats and cross-holes away from the centre line be cut without moving the part to a mill.

The live tooling is powered by a milling motor rated 5.5 / 3.7 / 2.2 kW (7.4 / 5.0 / 3.0 HP), with the tools turning at 4,000 rpm and rated to drill φ20 and tap M16. Rapids are 18 m/min on X, 24 m/min on Z and 10 m/min on Y.

The long bed costs floor space. The listed footprint is 2,410 × 1,930 mm (W × L), with a smaller 1,840 mm width given against a footnote, so check the configuration on the drawing before planning a line. The XT-8MY has the same Y axis, live tool capacity and 15 / 11 kW spindle on 420 mm (16.5 in) of Z and a 1,780 × 1,685 mm footprint, and is the better fit for short parts. The XTL-8MYS adds a sub-spindle and an A axis with 400 mm (15.7 in) of travel, for second-side work.
