Price estimate
We do not have a price for the STV CNC STVR8 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
A full 4 x 8 sheet fits the STV CNC STVR8: X travel is 48 in and Y travel 96 in, with 5.75 in in Z. This is the full-sheet size of the modular STVR router tables, the ones that ship as a frame kit for assembly on site, and it uses the 2.2 kW (3 HP) spindle fitted across the range.
The frame is laser cut and modular, which means it arrives as parts and is bolted together on site. Lower leg braces stiffen the base, and upper cross braces carry the wasteboard. All three axes run on hardened and ground linear guide rails. X and Y are driven by rack and pinion, and Z by a billet ball lead screw with 5.75 in of maximum travel. Four motors drive the axes directly at a 1:1 ratio. STV CNC states a motion accuracy of plus or minus 0.005 in per 12 in, a step resolution of 0.0005 in and a default maximum travel speed of 600 in/min. A 3:1 gear reduction system is offered as an upgrade and is not fitted to the base table.
Because Y travel is 96 in, cabinet sides, door blanks and long sign panels can be cut from a whole sheet in one setup, and a nest can use the full length of the board. Width is the limit. X travel of 48 in is the width of the sheet with nothing to spare, so the board has to be laid square to the axes. Loading a full sheet also needs clear floor along one long side of the table.
The table is specified for a 110 V AC, 15 A circuit. Its 2.2 kW (3 HP) air-cooled spindle reaches 24,000 rpm through a variable frequency drive, and ER20 collets for 1/4 in and 1/2 in tools are supplied. Programs run in Optimum CNC on the included Linux mini PC, which reads TAP, NC and the other listed G-code file types and talks to the control box over Ethernet. STV CNC is clear that the mini PC is for running the table and not for drawing: design files are made on another computer and carried over. A display, keyboard, mouse, wasteboard and dust hose are left to the buyer.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 2.2 kW (3 HP) air-cooled spindle, 24,000 rpm, with ER20 collets for 1/4 in and 1/2 in tools included
- Hardened and ground linear guide rails on all three axes, with rack and pinion on X and Y
- Specified for a 110 V AC, 15 A circuit; magnetic quick-release dust shoe with 2.5 in port included
- 48 in x 96 in of travel takes a full 4 x 8 sheet in one setup
Limitations
- The frame is a modular kit that the owner has to assemble
- Direct drive at a 1:1 ratio; the 3:1 gear reduction system is an upgrade
- X travel of 48 in leaves no margin beside a 4 ft wide sheet

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Yes. X travel is 48 in and Y travel is 96 in, which is the size of a 4 x 8 sheet, so the sheet has to be set square to the axes. Maximum Z travel is 5.75 in.
02
STV CNC's Optimum CNC control software, installed on a mini PC that comes with the table and connects by Ethernet. It accepts TAP, TXT, NC, DNC, ISO and CNC files. A monitor, keyboard and mouse have to be supplied by the owner, and design files are prepared on a separate computer.
03
STV CNC lists a default maximum travel speed of 600 in/min. Over 96 in of Y travel that matters more than on the square tables, because the moves between nested parts are longer.
04
Yes, as an upgrade. The base table drives its 4 motors directly at a 1:1 ratio, and STV CNC offers a gear reduction system that raises this to 3:1. The listed motion accuracy of plus or minus 0.005 in per 12 in and the 600 in/min default maximum travel speed are the figures given for the table as sold.
