How much does the STV CNC STVR4 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the STV CNC STVR4 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The STV CNC STVR4 is a 4 ft x 4 ft CNC router table on a modular, bolt-together frame: X and Y travel are 48 in each, with 5.75 in of Z. It is the smallest table in the STVR range and the way into it, carrying the same 2.2 kW (3 HP) spindle and Optimum CNC control as the larger sizes.
The frame is laser cut and modular, which means it arrives as parts and is bolted together on site. Lower leg braces stiffen the base, and upper cross braces carry the wasteboard. All three axes run on hardened and ground linear guide rails. X and Y are driven by rack and pinion, and Z by a billet ball lead screw with 5.75 in of maximum travel. Four motors drive the axes directly at a 1:1 ratio. STV CNC states a motion accuracy of plus or minus 0.005 in per 12 in, a step resolution of 0.0005 in and a default maximum travel speed of 600 in/min. A 3:1 gear reduction system is offered as an upgrade and is not fitted to the base table.
A 4 ft square bed takes half of a 4 x 8 sheet, so sheet goods have to be cut down before they go on the wasteboard. That suits signs, plaques, small furniture parts and one-off pieces better than cabinet nesting. Z travel of 5.75 in is a maximum. The wasteboard and the length of the bit come out of it, so thick foam or deep carving work should be checked against what is left.
The spindle is an air-cooled 2.2 kW (3 HP) unit that runs to 24,000 rpm, fed by a variable frequency drive with a 110 V single-phase input. It takes ER20 collets, and collets for 1/4 in and 1/2 in tools are included. There is no tool changer in the listing: bits are swapped by hand with two wrenches, which the owner supplies. A magnetic quick-release dust shoe with a 2.5 in port comes with the table. Control is STV CNC's own Optimum CNC software on a fanless Linux mini PC linked by Ethernet. The PC is included; the monitor, keyboard and mouse are not, and neither are the wasteboard or the dust extractor hose.

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The cutting envelope is 4 ft W x 4 ft L, with 48 in of travel in X and in Y. Z travel is 5.75 in at most. A 4 x 8 sheet has to be cut in half before it will go on the table.
02
Yes. The base model has a laser cut modular frame that STV CNC marks as assembly required, with lower leg braces and upper cross braces for the wasteboard. The welded STVR4 PRO is the version of this size that ships fully assembled.
03
A maximum of 5.75 in, on a billet precision ball lead screw. The wasteboard, the workpiece and the length of the bit all have to fit within it, so the usable height for thick stock is less than the headline figure.
