Overview

The STV CNC STVR10 PRO pairs the largest envelope in the STVR router range, 60 in of X travel by 120 in of Y, with the welded frame and 3:1 gear reduction of the PRO line. Z travel is 5.75 in. It is the table for 5 x 10 sheet goods in shops that do not want to assemble a frame themselves.

Nothing is bolted together by the owner. STV CNC welds the tubular frame, fits the gantry and ships the table fully assembled on leveling feet, so setting up comes down to leveling it, fastening a wasteboard and connecting power and dust collection. The motors are four steppers with a 3:1 gear reduction system as standard. The integrated homing kit uses 4 proximity sensors, and it also keeps the gantry aligned. X and Y move by rack and pinion and Z by a ball lead screw, all of them on hardened and ground linear guide rails. Listed motion accuracy is plus or minus 0.005 in per 12 in, with a step resolution of 0.0005 in and a default maximum travel speed of 600 in/min.

Y travel of 120 in covers long work such as countertops, shelving runs and full-length sign panels, and a 4 x 8 sheet leaves room down one side for clamps or offcuts. The cost is floor space: the bay has to be longer than the sheet, with room to slide a 5 x 10 board on from the side or the end. The spindle is the 2.2 kW (3 HP) unit fitted to the smallest table, so the larger bed buys capacity per load and not heavier cuts.

The control side matches the modular tables. Optimum CNC runs on an included mini PC with an Ethernet connection to the attached control box, and reads TAP, TXT, NC, DNC, ISO and CNC files. STV CNC states that this PC is not meant for creating design files, so CAD and CAM work happens on a separate computer. The spindle is air-cooled, 2.2 kW (3 HP), 24,000 rpm, with ER20 collets for 1/4 in and 1/2 in bits and an attached variable frequency drive. Input power is a 110 V AC, 15 A circuit. The wasteboard, dust extractor hose, display, keyboard and mouse are not part of the table.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Fully welded tubular frame, shipped fully assembled on industrial leveling feet
  • 3:1 gear reduction system on 4 stepper motors is standard
  • Integrated homing kit with 4 proximity sensors
  • 60 in x 120 in of travel for whole 5 x 10 sheets

Limitations

  • Motion accuracy is listed as plus or minus 0.005 in per 12 in, no tighter than on the modular tables
  • Wasteboard, fasteners, dust extractor hose and display accessories have to be sourced by the buyer
  • The spindle is no larger than on the 4 ft table, so the bigger bed does not bring heavier cuts

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What sheet sizes does the STVR10 PRO take?

Up to 5 x 10. X travel is 60 in and Y travel is 120 in, so a 5 x 10 sheet fits whole and a 4 x 8 sheet leaves room beside it. Maximum Z travel is 5.75 in.

02 What power does the STVR10 PRO need?

STV CNC lists input power as a 110 V AC, 15 A circuit. The spindle is driven by a variable frequency drive with a 110 V single-phase input and a 110 V 3-phase output, so the listed specification does not call for a three-phase supply in the building.

03 Is the spindle on the STVR10 PRO larger than on the smaller tables?

No. STV CNC fits an air-cooled 2.2 kW (3 HP), 24,000 rpm spindle with ER20 collets to every size. The larger bed increases how much material is cut per load, not the depth or width of cut the spindle will take.

04 How is the STVR10 PRO different from the modular STVR10?

In the frame and the drive. The PRO has a rigid, fully welded tubular frame and comes fully assembled, with industrial leveling feet, a 3:1 gear reduction system and an integrated homing kit with 4 proximity sensors. Travels of 60 in, 120 in and 5.75 in, the spindle and the control are the same on both.
