We do not have a price for the Shibaura Machine BTH-110.R18 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Shibaura Machine BTH-110.R18 is a horizontal boring machine with a 110 mm (4.3 in) boring spindle, a travelling column and a 1,400 x 1,800 mm (55.1 x 70.8 in) table that carries 10,000 kg (22,000 lb). The table crosses 2,500 mm (100 in) in X, the spindle head moves 2,000 mm (80 in) vertically in Y and the column 1,500 mm (60 in) lengthwise in Z. Spindle extension in W is 500 mm (20 in).
Speed is the theme of its figures. Rapid traverse is 18,000 mm/min (708.7 ipm) on X, Y and Z, B-axis rapid is 720 deg/min, and cutting feed covers 1-10,000 mm/min (0.04-393.7 ipm). The standard spindle runs 6-4,000 rpm on an AC 30/22 kW (40/30 hp) motor rated 30 min/continuous. On the BTH-130.R24 the standard range is 5-2,500 rpm, and 6-4,000 rpm is reached only with an optional high-speed head.
Shibaura Machine lists positioning accuracy of ±0.004 mm (±0.00016 in) and repeatability of ±0.002 mm (±0.00008 in) on X, Y and Z. On a machine with 2,500 mm of X those are demanding figures. They are what makes it realistic to bore a housing from one side, rotate it on the B axis and bore from the other while keeping the two bores in line.
Two options change the machine materially. A 130 mm (5.1 in) head brings AC 60/50 hp and a 5-4,000 rpm range for heavier boring bars. A 2-pallet APC takes 7,000 kg (15,400 lb) per pallet, which is below the 10,000 kg (22,000 lb) of the fixed table. The magazine holds 60 tools and the control is the FANUC 31i-B Plus.
The listed dimensions are 4,700 x 7,000 x 6,445 mm (185.0 x 275.6 x 253.7 in) H x W x D, so roof height and floor area need checking early.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Rapid traverse of 18,000 mm/min (708.7 ipm) on X, Y and Z, with cutting feed up to 10,000 mm/min (393.7 ipm)
- Positioning accuracy of ±0.004 mm (±0.00016 in) and repeatability of ±0.002 mm (±0.00008 in) on X, Y and Z
- 6-4,000 rpm as the standard spindle range, on an AC 30/22 kW (40/30 hp) motor
- 1,400 x 1,800 mm (55.1 x 70.8 in) table rated for 10,000 kg (22,000 lb)
- Optional 130 mm (5.1 in) head with AC 60/50 hp and 5-4,000 rpm
- B axis with a 720 deg/min rapid for presenting several faces in one setup
Limitations
- W-axis rapid is 6,000 mm/min (236.2 ipm), a third of the 18,000 mm/min (708.7 ipm) on X, Y and Z
- The optional 2-pallet APC carries 7,000 kg (15,400 lb) per pallet, less than the 10,000 kg (22,000 lb) fixed table
- The 130 mm (5.1 in) head with AC 60/50 hp is an option; the standard motor is AC 30/22 kW (40/30 hp)
- At 4,700 mm (185.0 in) high and 7,000 mm (275.6 in) wide it needs a tall bay and a large floor area
- Table load is half the 20,000 kg (44,000 lb) of the BTH-130.R24

Frequently Asked Questions
01
X is the cross movement of the table, 2,500 mm (100 in). Y is the vertical movement of the spindle head, 2,000 mm (80 in). Z is the longitudinal movement of the column, 1,500 mm (60 in). W is the spindle extension, 500 mm (20 in). A B-axis rapid of 720 deg/min is also listed.
02
The standard 110 mm (4.3 in) spindle has an AC 30/22 kW (40/30 hp) motor, rated 30 min/continuous, and a 6-4,000 rpm range. The option is a 130 mm (5.1 in) head with AC 60/50 hp and 5-4,000 rpm. The table does not list a torque figure for either.
03
Positioning accuracy is listed as ±0.004 mm (±0.00016 in) and repeatability as ±0.002 mm (±0.00008 in), both for X, Y and Z. No accuracy figure is given for W or for the B axis, which matters if bores are to be held in line after a rotation, so ask for the B-axis indexing accuracy.
04
Yes, a 2-pallet APC is optional. Each pallet is rated for 7,000 kg (15,400 lb). The fixed table is rated for 10,000 kg (22,000 lb), so the pallet version gives up part of the weight capacity in exchange for loading one part while another is machined.
05
The BTH-130.R24 is the heavier machine, with a 2,000 x 2,400 mm (78.7 x 94.4 in) table rated for 20,000 kg (44,000 lb) and a standard spindle range of 5-2,500 rpm. The BTH-110.R18 has a 1,400 x 1,800 mm (55.1 x 70.8 in) table, 10,000 kg (22,000 lb) and 6-4,000 rpm as standard. Both hold 60 tools.
