Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Shibaura Machine BTD-200QS that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Shibaura Machine BTD-200QS is a compact horizontal boring machine built around a 200 mm (7.8 in) quill spindle. Travel is 59 in (1,500 mm) in X, 47.2 in (1,200 mm) in Y and 27.5 in (700 mm) in Z over a 39 x 47 in (1,000 x 1,200 mm) table, and the quill adds 15.7 in (400 mm) of W. Spindle speed is listed at 5,000 rpm, from a high-speed head with a 15-5,000 rpm range.
A large quill in a small envelope is what sets it apart from the other BTD machines. The BTD-110S.R16 has a 55 x 63 in (1,400 x 1,600 mm) table and a 3,000 rpm spindle. The BTD-130S.R22 has a 71 x 87 in (1,800 x 2,200 mm) table and runs to 2,500 rpm. The BTD-200QS is the smallest and fastest of the three, suited to parts that would be lost on those tables but still need a W axis to get a boring tool inside them.
The table is rated for 8,800 lb (4,000 kg). X travel of 59 in is longer than either side of the table, so the spindle can run past the edges of a fixture that fills it. Z is the short axis at 27.5 in (700 mm). Reach into a part therefore comes partly from the quill, and a bore taken on quill extension alone is limited to 15.7 in (400 mm).
The magazine holds 30 tools, half the 60 of the BTD-110S.R16. That covers the boring, facing and drilling routine for a family of parts, but leaves little room for duplicate tools on long runs. A 2-pallet APC is optional and is rated at 7,700 lb (3,500 kg) per pallet, so choosing it lowers the workpiece limit from the 8,800 lb (4,000 kg) of the fixed table. Control is the FANUC 31i-B Plus. Shibaura Machine's table for this model lists no spindle power, taper or rapid traverse, and those should be requested before comparing it with other machines.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 200 mm (7.8 in) quill with 15.7 in (400 mm) of W travel for boring inside the part
- 5,000 rpm high-speed head with a 15-5,000 rpm range, against 3,000 rpm on the BTD-110S.R16
- 59 in (1,500 mm) of X travel over a 39 x 47 in (1,000 x 1,200 mm) table
- Fixed table rated for 8,800 lb (4,000 kg)
- Optional 2-pallet APC carrying 7,700 lb (3,500 kg) per pallet
Limitations
- 30 tools in the magazine, against 60 on the BTD-110S.R16 and on the BTD-130S.R22
- Z travel is 27.5 in (700 mm), the shortest of the three linear axes
- The 2-pallet APC is an option, and its 7,700 lb (3,500 kg) pallet rating is below the 8,800 lb (4,000 kg) of the fixed table
- No spindle power, taper or rapid traverse rows are listed, so cutting capacity cannot be judged from the table alone

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The table is 39 x 47 in (1,000 x 1,200 mm) and rated for 8,800 lb (4,000 kg). Travel is 59 in (1,500 mm) in X, 47.2 in (1,200 mm) in Y and 27.5 in (700 mm) in Z, with a further 15.7 in (400 mm) from the quill in W. Fixture weight counts against the table rating.
02
A quill spindle with a 200 mm (7.8 in) quill diameter. Speed is listed as 5,000 rpm, from a high-speed head with a 15-5,000 rpm range. The table does not state spindle power, torque or taper, so ask Shibaura Machine for those figures before sizing cuts.
03
No. A 2-pallet APC is listed as an option, rated at 7,700 lb (3,500 kg) per pallet. Without it the work sits on the fixed table, which is rated higher at 8,800 lb (4,000 kg). A part between those two weights can only be run on the fixed-table version.
04
The BTD-110S.R16 is the larger machine: a 55 x 63 in (1,400 x 1,600 mm) table rated for 13,860 lb (6,300 kg), a 3,000 rpm spindle and 60 tools. The BTD-200QS has a 39 x 47 in (1,000 x 1,200 mm) table, 8,800 lb (4,000 kg), 5,000 rpm and 30 tools. Both use the FANUC 31i-B Plus control.
